Any club can still have history without all the trophies they have or haven't won, for example:
the dedication of fans,
the number of players they bring through the ranks,
the amount they do for the community,
the good & bad players which have been and gone,
the controversy on and off the pitch,

BUT only the number of trophies play a small part to the history.

So why is it, the players who have only ever played at 'the best' clubs in their career cannot understand this? They probably have or had nothing to do with all the "behind the scenes" aspects of being a footballer at those clubs and don't understand the real meaning of a football club having history!

we have 107 year history of winning trophies, from our first in 1904 to 2011, not many teams can match that i would of thought.

The history of football proves that very few sides have found success generation after generation.

Ask someone from 'Greater Manchester' about the most successful local side in 1903 and he'd have said "Bury" (2 FA Cups; City 0 Utd 0).

Ask the same question in 1905 and he'd have said Bury and City (1 FAC and 2 near misses in the League).

By 1911 - Utd & City

By 1930s - City
By 1947 - City

By 1965 - Utd
By 1968 - City & Utd
1971 - City
1981 - City and Utd
1991 - Utd
2010 - Utd
2011 - Utd, but City are catching up.

Ultimately, the volume of trophies won is only one factor, but the truly great clubs achieve success generation after generation - like City used to before the 80s.

City have had a poor 30 years, but the Blues were right up to the late 1980s always viewed as one of the giants of the English game - one of the early 80s Big Five (with L'pool, Utd, Everton, and Spurs/Arsenal depending on who was saying it).
