Storm Babet

I live in Bournemouth, and have lost count of how many weather warnings have been issued, and absolutely no impact on local travel or property. Maybe if you want to stand on the jetty and brave onshore winds, your life may be in danger, but maybe society would be better to lose such idiots

I’m not rattled by you. You’re just another person devoid of empathy.

In answer to your question, yes, I either live in the countryside or in a town.

Very funny. I'll just assume that you're a townie. That being the case, I've probably done more to alleviate local flooding today than you've done in your entire life.

I obviously feel very sorry for the families of anyone who's died as a result of the storms, but there has been plenty of warning and advice given. If people take unnecessary risks, there's always the chance of tragedy.

Today, I've been busy making sure that drainage gullies are clear and that my absent neighbour's livestock is safe on high ground. Once that was done, it's time to get indoors, keep warm and hope for a break in the weather.

We get at least one bout of heavy flooding every year round here. Some years really bad, some not so. We take action throughout the ýear to make sure impact is minimised, and hope we've done enough.

Rural living can be tough, but we respect and learn to live with the weather. Nature rules. We're just visitors.

But why? Weather is just weather.

My answer wasn't meant to be funny. It was meant to show it was a daft question.

Correct. And it's far bigger than we are. Learn to respect it and live with it.
Learn to interpret a forecast and you can do so even better.

I think Babet has shown itself to be worthy of its name.

Are you campaigning for the film The Perfect Storm to be retitled as “It’s a bit choppy, like, but we are at sea”?

I've just realised...

You are Carol Kirkwood. Is it too late to claim my £5?
