Storm Babet

Oh good, the people who get irked by naming of storms are sure to love that this one is transgender too. ;-)

It seems the naming of storms began with the snowflakes fighting in WWII.
Actually, sorry to contradict you @Alan Harper's Tash but it began in the 1500s. Saints names were used in those days. :-)

BBC was my friend via Google. :-)

Naming of “storms” is a recent phenomenon, started around 4 years ago to raise awareness. The issue now, any low pressure system seems to be a “storm”. The very definition of a storm is what is being brought into doubt here. If we were to all largely agree what a “storm” was, this weeks event, or most other “storms” named by the met office wouldn’t even register.

The rain seems to have (for now anyway) stopped. Around here at least. Apparently, they had a month's rain in 24 hours down in the south of Ireland. If you're on twitter, sorry, 'x', search Midleton (one d, not the Rochdale one).

I've been there, actually been to both Middleton and Midleton. Lovely people. Hope everyone is ok. :-)
