Stuttgart Cannstatter Volksfest

Anyone been?

We go to the Munich Oktoberfest every couple of years but we're thinking of trying Stuttgart instead.

If you've been, would you recommend it? Also, when reading up on the festival it says that you really need to book seats in the tents to get a seat but it also says the same thing about Munich and we've found that you don't need to as long as you're there early enough and you're not part of too big a crowd.

Yes I went a few years ago. I found it altogether better then the Oktoberfest - similar atmosphere but smaller and a lot fewer morons. Plenty of beer and pork-related food on offer - the fun-fair might not have been as good as in Munich, I'm wasn't that bothered about that though.
One large beer tent is very similar to another, and having more of them (Munich) doesn't make it any better. We didn't have any trouble then getting in without booking, but I can't speak for the situation now.

Sounds like it's well worth a visit. We do love Munich Okotberfest but it's time for a change. As for the funfair, we won't bother. I went on the Olympic Rings once after a skinfull. It wasn't pretty :-(
