Given our recent influx of players in the last year, Robinho, Given, Bellamy, De Jong, Kompany, Zabaleta,Bridge, Barry, Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Taylor, to name but 11, and not forgetting Ireland, SWP, Onouha, Richards, Hart, Dunne, Elano, Petrov, Johnston, Schmeicel & Weiss to name 11 very decent players already there. Terry and Lescott and one more midfielder probably on their way before the transfer window closes.

What does this forum think success will be?

A top 4 finish?
A top 6 finish?
A good cup run?
Winning Silverware?
Winning a cup?
Winning the home and away derby matches?

Come to think about it what would you consider failure?

My thoughts: Success would be winning Silverware or a top 4 finish and failure being outside the top 6 and no Silverware.

Relegated, despite winning the Carling and FA cups comfortably.

TO REACH AT LEAST A SEMI FINAL !!!! Last time we did that i was one year old. Even the likes of Wycombe and Chesterfield have got to the Semi's in recent history

Here we go. There are too many players coming in, imo, for immediate "success". These guys are going to need to get to know one another, and how each other plays. Hughes and Bowen have to facilitate this, but with the greatest of respect to both, I'm not at all sure they'll be able to make them all gel instantly. I fear a 'worse than expected' season from start to finish and a continuation of Hughes Out threads. What they need to do is just make sure the defence is better organised than it has been before, and so as we concede less.

But.

January, next summer- where will City need to strengthen? In reality, they probably won't. Maybe one player, or two. If nothing happens this season, perhaps the odds have significantly shortened for the season after next. And the one after. And the one after that. No new players, no hassle, everybody knows what they're doing, and the squad is strong enough to mount a serious challenge to just about any team they'll ever have to go up against.

It depends on who we sign, but I will be happy with a top 6 finish myself.

At the moment, things are a bit giddy with all the signings. I had to pinch myself tonight. I'm trying to be realistic........lets just say with what we think may happen in the transfer market over the next few weeks, we may surprise ourselves next season.

One thing is for sure, I'm am not thinking of failure. Whatever happens this season will be an improvement.

id take 5th and a cup final (win or lose)

are you fucking mad?

if you thought getting knocked out of the cups by a pub side was bad getting beat in a final is ten times worse !

if we get to a final we must win it or the press will have a field day

Until we sign some defenders top 6 will be realistic.
I'd love a trip to wembley an fa cup semi would do.
