Suella Braverman - sacked as Home Secretary (p394)

Braverman is an (re)appointment of convenience and the opposition parties and the media will see her as the weakest link and pursue her doggedly for the coming months. Sunak can keep her in the Cabinet for a few months as a sop to his right-wing, but she’ll likely be gone in his first major reshuffle.

She got completely mauled during the UQ, made even worse by her cowardice in not being there to answer the points being made. The excuse that a mistake shouldn’t hang over someone for the rest of their career is particularly weak when it’s just 6 days between losing her job and regaining it.

I mentioned that Johnson liked the "made a mistake, now we move on" line.

It's no surprise that they are continuing trotting out the line now, but under a week is truly laughable. Such a crushing hit to have taken, having to write an obnoxious resignation letter knifing the then-leader, and getting the job back...

By their own fucked up logic that they've apologised and made a mistake so can be forgiven and put back in post, then shouldn't Truss be reappointed as leader and PM?

I mean.. sure she "made a mistake" with her right wing policy ideas fucking the economy, but she's "apologised for it".

Surely an "elected" (within her party) leader is better than someone (Sunak) who just was the only one left who hadn't led an Apprentice task this week.

Oh what's that? It only works when they feel it should? Ahh.

The comment from some Tory guy about an MP under Blair having done similar was laughable.

Blair the PM from 2007? That Blair.

Like fucking football managers this Tory cabinet… get sacked, wait a week and get another high paid job. Treat us like mugs.

Would anyone else bar the current HS not be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act at sending 'stuff' over a government secure system? You might not have deliberately exposed the material but it's another example of a loose cannon being rewarded for her lack of judgement.

Been trying to work out which minister resigned and returned under Blair. The only one that I can find that is slightly comparable was Mandelson who resigned after late disclosure of a home loan from a colleague and he got a new role in government 10 months later. An enquiry found he hadn't broken the ministerial code anyway but the publicity was having a detrimental effect on the government so he went anyway. Not sure if there's any other examples, certainly none where there was a clear breach and a reinstatement in less than a week.

Without knowing the official security classification of the data in the email it's difficult to say but the answer is quite possibly, and doing it by accident is no defence. I work with classified information regularly and there are very clear protocols about how it is transmitted. "Oops sorry I was tired" is bollocks, she did it deliberately and knew exactly what she was doing.

Boris was a genius at deflecting attention. Every time he was challenged on his conduct he just responded with "the people of this country want us to focus on running the country, delivering Brexit" etc and suggesting the opposition were the ones that were causing issues when he just wanted to do his job. There are people out there that lapped that up and didn't see through his bullshit.
