It's also notable that Britain's population has started decrease when she said this. It was never about numbers and always about. Net migration was actually -27,000 for 1971-1981.

The Tories were in power for 65 nonconsecutive years in the 20th Century and 13 years out of 23 this century, yet they still play this card as if it's all news to them, and their core voters lap it up.

But the Tories are in trouble, they play this card only twice in the political cycle, when they've a solid majority and know they're getting another at the next election, so they don't mind pissing of the floating voter with a conscience coz they don't need em. Or they're in the shitter and they've given up flirting with the floating voter and are happy to use this rhetoric to shore up their core vote.

Shudder to think what the next reincarnation of the Tories will look like but based on the political cycle of my lifetime I'll be (potentially) in my late 60's.
