Summer Net Spend

Getting a bit like Liverpool here but is certainly interesting, especially to the outside world it is as if we spend 2-300 million every window.

How much was our net fees for last season?

Of course net spend is relevant towards FFP. If we have a net spend of 1 billion then we’re more than likely failing FFP. If we have a net spend of 100 million we’re probably ok. It’s a very relevant stat to the running of the club to balance the books. Barca are the perfect example of that this summer.

But net spend isn't a reflection of what's going on in the books at all. If you signed a world class player on a free but put him on a £500k a week contract then you'd have a zero net spend figure but you aren't factoring in the £26m you've agreed to shell out per year.

Net spend doesn't factor in the book value of the player at the time of sale. It doesn't help us to surmise anything about cashflow either because it doesn't factor in information about when instalments will be paid or if there are financing costs involved. It doesn't factor in agent's fees. It doesn't tell you the change in annual salaries. It really doesn't tell us anything. These threads are useful for just seeing who has come in and out but that's about it.

Apparently, a net spend of -£7.9m covering last summer and January.

Stupid thread with too many variables. Ammortised transfer figures are barely 1/2 of the annual net spend (and we dont even have accurate figures for that. Salary and wage structure is far more significant (look at Sanchez to united deemed a 0 in the net spend figures but actually cost in region of £135 in sign on and wages.
Liverpool now spend more than us on wages every year...
So we have VK off our books and Delph, replaced by Rodri and Angelino. My guess is this has lowered our wage bill.
A true reflection of spend should be the combined remaing ammortised transfer figures and the wages players receive. Only then can we have a true picture of net spend.
