Sunderland - 2024/25 season

Have to be honest, I've never understood the myth about Sunderland's "fanatical" support. Any time you see them on the box, there's plenty of empty seats on show. Even today, the first home game of the season, after a summer away from football. And I'm not on about fans disappearing for their HT cuppa/fag. And I guarantee you; come December, against a mid table side, with a force 9 storm blowing, and the rain coming down at 45°, that stadium will be (at best) three quarters full. Now, I get it; times are hard, and fans are struggling to afford the cost of tickets. But the media need to stop the nonsense about their support. Their Teesside neighbours are the same.
