No different from how he played Negredo in a League Cup game when were were 6-0 who then picked up a shoulder injury and never recovered his form. It's also why he did well at clubs like Villareal and Malaga who didn't have these fixtures to juggle.

But that's irregardless to the actual point. The actual point is that we're already starting to lose highly talented players because they can't even get a game during the League cup against Championship opposition. Sunderland are soon to be Championship opposition and we gave a £8m signing a debut who has already played numerous competitive league games, played Manu Garcia for 20 minutes then gave George Evans 3 minutes espite the game being won with 60 minutes to go. This is now the 8th consecutive year that we have failed to bring through any youth players into the squad so far. 8 years. Not one player.

We are the only team in the Champions League with 0 homegrown players, meaning we have an actual squad of 21 players unlike the 25 others have which again leads into the other problems

This is a pointless argument on here and I've been having it for years because people have no idea how good our youth players are. Unlike Nacho comes on and scores immediately and now gets posts saying he should play. Obviously he must have taken a major jump in talent in that last two weeks. People on here can't see the wood from the trees, so utterly petrified are they of our youth players that they automatically think that we'll get beat if we play them. Maffeo could walk into most Premier League sides tomorrow. He'd be the best player in any Championship side. Denayer is even better than that and is currently standing out at yet another Champions League club (after previously standing out at a different Champions League club) after we promised him first team football to get him to sign a contract then spunked £30m on a new centre back and fucked him off elsewhere. Think he's happy now? Think he's here for the long term?

I said two years ago that if you couldn't see that this was a developing problem you just weren't paying attention. Now we have 0 homegrown players, constantly knocked out of the February CL game, haven't integrated a new young player into the squad in 8 years and are pissing off most of the youth players who stand a chance to gain actual first team footballer here. If you still can't see it's a problem then it's wilful stupidity.

Until we let an academy product go who turns out to be a worldie (ala Pogba or KDB) I don't think we can complain. In terms of elite European clubs, only the likes of Barca and Bayern regularly bring through top class talent and, without too much knowledge in this field, i'd imagine their academy setup was far superior to ours until very recently.

We've been proven right in our more recent past with the likes of Denis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Abdul Razak, Shaleum Logan & Reece Wabara et al. All players who could've arguably been integrated more into the first team but at the expense of us using a proven world class player. Look what ended up happening to them when they were given regular runs in the first team - nowt, except for Sturridge who would probably have been good for us but I can't say i'm too upset that we didn't persevere with him.

The players are starting to come through as i'm sure you'll admit, I reckon we've already given academy players more minutes this season than they have had at this stage for the last few years and this comes at a time when our squad looks as good as ever.

I'm very positive on the future prospects of our academy - we have a couple of incredible academy graduates out on loan, we have the best academy facility in the world ready to churn out players better than ever, and we have a few who are in the current squad getting minutes here and there.
 
only concern was the amount of free headers we gifted them in front of goal and the apparent lack of confidence with Sergio, roll on spuds when he normally fills his boots

It was a fantastic result given we managed to rest a few key players and generally coast through the game. There were many positives, the best for me was the performances of KDB and Fernando. If they both keep that up we will have 2 new fantastic players.

However it was a bit of an opportunity missed in term’s of game time for EDS players. We should have made the 3 substitutions before 60mins and given the lads time to get into the game and make a contribution. I appreciate that people might take the piss for arguing over the timing of substitutions but when you have the scale of effort that goes into the academy at city and number of players and coaches working their balls of to get kids through into the first team every minute is precious and having senior players just playing a game out like a training match (trying to avoid injury) doesn’t do anything for anyone. Get some kids on there and the feel good factor around the club goes up 10 fold. That said massive improvement in involving the EDS players on recent years is noted.
