Sunderland

I was living in Swindon a few years back and shared a B&B with a toony. I went with him to a local pub to watch Newcastle v Somebody (not City). I ordered 2 pints, before the barman had pulled the second, toony had downed the first. By the end of the match I had drunk 3+1/2 but toon fella had got through 14. But the most impressive part was that, all match, he didn't go for a slash once, not even half-time.
Were you out with Jimmy 5 bellies? With his belly capacity he could probably down another 14 pints before needing the gents!

Sunderland on the verge of being bought by a 22 year old Frenchman.

An agreement has been reached for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to buy Stewart Donald's controlling interest in Sunderland, paving the way for a takeover.

The Frenchman will become chairman in the new year, subject to approval by the English Football League.

Aged just 22, Louis-Dreyfus, the son of former Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus, would become the youngest chairman in English football.

Hope that this works out for Sunderland - they are too good a club to be stuck in Division One.
I really hope so too.

Apart from them being the best set of opposition supporters we have encountered at Wembley, they deserve our eternal credit for their reaction to Agüeroooooooooo at SoL on that wonderful afternoon.

I like Sunderland and want them to do well but I would have concerns about such a young chairman. The footballing world is full of long in the tooth skullduggery and without good advice he could be taken for a ride. Hopefully he is a fast learner and little damage is done to a great old club.

Always liked Sunderland. Remember a few of them coming down for Bob Brightwells testomonial, after we had just been relegated to the old div 3. They were a good craic.

I was at the game where we relegated them. They had a block of fans at the far end of the kippax, next to Platt Lane and I was right next to them. Did not realise it was 91. I was only 11 then. Shows how much the world has changed, as no way would a parent let 11 year old kids go the the match on their own now, especially into somewhere like the Kippax.

Great day and great fans, hope they turn it round and manage to get back to the Premier League.

I’d suspect he is simply a token figurehead for his wider family’s ownership
