superbia package-major flaw

if city sell say 600/700 of these packages, to the first 700 people willing to buy them, then for some european away games there will be no allocation as such.

take midjettland away 2 years ago, 600 allocation, these would effectively all be taken by the richest fans, and in many cases not the most loyal, again brighton away 2 years ago, allocation 800.

it is obvious city intend to sell out of superbia packages due to offering to join the waiting list with platinum.

those who have done their time, earnt their points honestly, but whom cannot afford the 2.5k are going to be let down big time.

methinks someone at city needs to read what the word loyalty means.

It's unlikely they will all take up the option to go even with guarenteed tickets, They might be able to afford the 2.5K, doesn't mean they will be able to go to them all. Some with more money than sense will just like to have the option I guess.

There's no way 700 will stump up for this.
Out of interest, how many people would have received invites?

I read somewhere that 1000 invites were sent out - I received one and have around 6900 loyalty points. I won't be taking up the invite though because I only do about 50%-60% of away games every season and this only appeals to those that go to every single game. Even then, it's not really worth it because by my calculations we'd have to reach the final of all 3 competitions each season for it to represent anything approaching fair value:

Guaranteed seat for every home league game - £445-£750 (ish) depending on where you sit in the ground.
19 away league games at an average cost of £40 per ticket
12 Champions League games (6 group games assuming we qualify in 3rd place, both last 16 games, both quarters, and both semis) at an average cost of £40 per ticket
5 FA Cup games (3rd, 4th, 5th, quarter-final, and semi-final) at an average cost of £40 per ticket
5 League Cup games (3rd, 4th, quarter-final, and both legs of the semi-final) at an average cost of £30 per ticket
1 Champions League Final ticket - say £150
1 FA Cup Final ticket - say £100
1 League Cup Final ticket - say £80

I know these are only estimated figures (some league aways and some CL aways will no doubt cost higher, yet some FA Cup and League Cup games will cost less) but I make that costing between £2365 and £2670 (depending on where you sit in our ground) and that assumes we get to all 3 finals.

My guess is that about 100 people tops will plump for the Superbia membership and I'd be surprised if there are more than 100 spaces anyway - someone mentioned earlier in this thread that there might be 600-700 places up for grabs but if that's the case then how does that stack out in terms of the incentive regarding travelling on the team plane to European aways? Are the club thinking of chartering an A380 Airbus so everyone can get on it?!!

Most of the people invited to joing would presumably have qualified for tickets anyway. So why pay £2500 up front for the privilege of getting something ypu would get regardless?

Like the way they handled the Family Stand (and eventually admitted it) the club have dropped a bollock here. The thing that would worry me is that they start selling these packages to new fans who can afford it, squeezing out the real hardcore loyal fans who can't.

Brand Loyalty.
What's missing from all the debate is a clear understanding of what "loyalty" really means. As I don't hold a season ticket and only have a few hundred loyalty points I've stayed away from the debate but It's interesting that the term is being used exclusively to describe attendance where as we have had debates in the past about people milking the points system by getting tickets and selling them on. For me loyalty means an ongoing investment of TIME, MONEY and EMOTION.

If we are honest, yes all these a money making schemes.
It needs to happen as we all said this is a product of EUFA pair play rule.
If you keep the prices low you will never break even and so fall foul of the EPP.
If we need to blame anyone blame Plattini.

I do not really agree with it but the alternative is adding even more to the ticket price.
This is the way football is being driven. Once other clubs see that we can make extra this way just watch them do a similar scheme.

if they are looking to sell 700 of these thats £1.75m in the bank before next season. A welcome boost to the clubs coffers some might say.

they may attract some wealthier fans with this, but sure as shit they have pissed off some very dedicated fans with this aswell, the ones who turn up at villa away when there were only 900 blues there because we had nothing to play for.

if i get alienated by the club for the low allocation games, despite always having enough points up till now, i will alienate myself away from the games where they are begging for our attendance.

loyalty is a 2 way thing, we remained loyal when the team was absolutely dogshit, to reward that loyalty by giving status to wealthier fans whom havnt earnt the right is very very poor.

Isn't the criteria points? Surely that qualifies as earning the right.

the qualifying will be once you have signed for the package you get every ticket regardless, if city have set aside 600/700 of these, they will go down the pecking order of loyalty points and find enough people to buy them, thus those at the top end of loyalty points will be leapfrogged by wealthier fans who have spent far less time, money and effort following city in the past, but now fancy, should we say jumping on the bandwagon.

our household in no way can afford 5000 quid in one go, they will no doubt get offered down the queue (see the platinum season card offer), thus i will have lost my status despite spending significantly more than 2.5k.

like i say it stinks.

I thought this too - i think a better arguement would be that those who have earnt the right to be invited to Superbia, but can't afford/don't agree with it, will not have the same privileges they've enjoyed currently by earning the points to be at the top of the pile for every game.

and what becomes of the ticket, it wont make general circulation, because it is a guarenteed ticket to land on your doormat, nobody elses.
