Surreal Moments at City Games

Bellamy being sent off at Bolton when the referee adjudged him to have simulated in the box, when he was fouled. The thing that made that odd was his first yellow card was given to him at the end of the first half walking off the pitch and no one in the ground knew he had already been booked. That was odd.

A Spurs game at Maine Road 80s? when we left the field after about 10mins because of a colour clash and changed into our away kit.

I believe the ref was a Mr Clattered-Bent, or something. A man believed by many to be less than honest with some of his decisions. Must be a scurrilous rumour though.

It was indeed Twattenburg; he booked Bellamy for remonstrating with him for not giving us a throw-in after the ball had gone out. Think Bolton scored shortly after, having benefitted from the incorrect decision.

No-one knew of the booking as he did it as he was walking away from Bellamy and didn’t raise his arm to show the yellow card - it was highlighted on MOTD later that night.

Twattenburg then booked Bellamy for diving - which was later found to be a wrong decision (again) and he was sent off having been booked twice.

It was at home to Bury on 8th Feb '64. Before the days of subs, Harry ended up being injured and replaced in goal by an outfield player, and then instructed to stay on and make a nuisance of himself up front. He only went and scored, it ended 1-1.
Colin Bell played for Bury that day - I think it might have been his League debut. I can't recall if he sdored or not.
Matt Gray was the City ouyfield player who went in goal when Dowd was injured.

Just checked - and yes, a 17-year-ld debutant called Colin Bell scored for Bury that day.

Indeed it was. I'll have to dig out my 'You're Worse Than Clattenburg" KOTK article, where I listed all the dodgy decisions he gave against us.

What was that name they used to announce over the tannoy at Maine Road, Mr someone, that was code for something?
