Hughes - 18 points

Sven - 27 points

Yeah Sven was shit, only 27 points with an inferior squad.

How did he have an inferior squad. Hughes has half of svens squad injured

While I honestly believe that SGE would have done miles better with this team than Hughes, I agree that we should not look back.

I don't think Hughes is the right man for the job though, we need to find a suitable replacement asap. Let's just hope we won't get relegated.

3 players that matter are injured (Petrov, Johnson and Bojinov (who obviously doesn't count)). 2 players is not 'half a squad'. You can't honestly argue that the squad Hughes has to pick from is weaker than last year.

Not that I want Sven back, or think that he was a bad manager for us, but why the fuck would he want to?
He currently has a cushty job where he; sits in the sun in luxury, gets the same money he would get here, will get the same severence payment when he gets bored and only has to work for roughly half a year.

I'm with the pro Sven lobby here.

Sven was the right man for the job when it seemed we had enough funds to finance the 5 year plan. He lost heart when it became apparent that the money would probably not be there and that the owner of dubious motives wanted to interfere by 'tightening the nuts' and undermining his position. On pitch performances suffered as a result.

With the money freely available and a board that is clearly prepared to be hands-off, I can only wonder how Sven would be doing now in the same circumstances. Given 5 years now I'd have to back Sven over Hughes. Sven has been there, seen it, done it.

Sven seemed to fit at City in a way that Hughes just doesn't. Sven was universally respected inside and outside of the club and had the vocal backing of the fans. Remember the support he got at COMS when it became apparent that he was going to be ditched?

I think Hughes will come good IF given time. But he is no Sven.

Fair enough, but when things were going well for Sven, Petrov and Johnson were arguably our most important players

Sven has 2 things over Hughes:

1) The ability to attract top world stars

2) The respect of the players he manages

Sven never really wanted another long term club management job after the England fiasco... But Thaksin tempted him with a nice big juicy contract... After a few months he realised it was more hassle than he was prepared to put up with, gave up and went back to International management, where a playboy can still pick up a nice pay-cheque and only work a few weeks a year before he gets paid-off again...

He was never going to take us further, and is gone, so please get over it!
