Malwarebytes and Spy-Bot Search and Destroy are good. Run them in safe mode.

Always choose custom instalation when installing any progs.

Good point that. Many recent programs (especially shareware/demo's) attempt to install toolbars and junk unless you specifically select the custom installation. It used to be the other way round.
