Swindon Town (A) - FA Cup 3rd Round | Post Match Thread

Well done Swindon. Game played in the right spirit and that was down to you. Football in the South West is rubbished but the teams that City have played here have always played in the right way. I remember two brilliant matches in the League Cup semifinal against Bristol City and that great little Bristol City ball boy who was made guest of honour at the Etihad for the second leg.
Well done Swindon. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Here here, we’ll said and I add my best wishes for promotion, Swindon look way too good for League 2!

Credit to Swindon for atleast trying to play football unlike majority of pl team . Hope they get promoted.
Had a look at the post match comments on their forum. Very complimentary about us, Rodri and Palmer in particular. Like you, I hope they go up and love through the divisions.

Did we get Fitzroy Simpson from there ?
Yes.his finest game was when we battered Leeds utd 4nil at Maine rd ..he was clattering into challenges on Strachan and McAllister etc in centre mid.
Think we beat Leeds 4nil two seasons on the trot, one of those games we didnt really want to win,as utd and leeds were neck and neck for the title...pre match all Blues were secretly hoping Leeds won....so we go and smash em 4nil.
Bittersweet.
Typical Maine rd City.
Back in the day.

I may be wrong but the criticism may have been penned by one of the generation of supporters who didn't experience (enjoy) the hassles we had getting into grounds in the 1950/1960s when we paid at the gate.
Nah. Just a very twattish comment that should not be excused. Swindon deserve every credit for last night and to call them out as an "amateur tin pot club", especially given their recent history, is just total bullshit.

On behalf of the amateur tinpot club, please don't bother coming again, should the situation arise. For all the other nice comments, thanks.
Dont take any notice. You should be proud of your team, and im trying not to sound patronising. Played football in the right way and i hope your pony tailed striker made his shift ont waltzers when he had to go off with cramp

good luck STFC

Didn't neeed to get out first gear and a few sloppy passes but overall a fairly comfortable win and professional performance. Good to see a few of the youngsters come on at the end.

Hopefully we get a similar tie in the next round, Swindon would of done well out of the game, selected for tv, full house & a strong City line up, especially given our covid issues, shame Pep couldn’t be there as I’m sure their manager is a disciple, every lower league teams chairman will want City in the next round after seeing how much we respect the fa cup.
It’s a bit different with covid doing the rounds but don’t underestimate the effect these games have on the locals, I wouldn’t call it a charm offensive but more they get to see the real City, not the one portrayed in the media, from the travelling dignitaries, backroom staff, players & management our club always shows it’s class, on & off the pitch. It’s a shame the players can’t interact a bit more at the minute as I’ve seen it first hand at other clubs (even ones in the championship) how it is received, if the club wants to continue its growth & attract new supporters then games like this really do wonders promoting the club

It was a pleasure to have played you mate, your lads approach to the game made it what it was, was very impressed with how you tried to play the game, even though you shot yourself in the foot a couple of times, but you’ll learn from that.
Was very impressed with the lad you have upfront, McKirdy was it ? He looked really dangerous and you can see the quality there, hopefully you can keep hold of him and get that promotion, good luck.

Fucking good free kick by the way, the technical ability to place it there in insanely impressive
I thought the same, the one time the comentators anoyed me, all about the wall & the keeper in the wrong when it was just a fantastic free kick,
Can you imagine if salah or ronaldo did that, we would see it every year for the next 20.
