These 3 players have been getting a lot of stick later and loads on here are saying get rid. I don't know why though...

I'll agree that they haven't been great recently - SWP and Ireland anyway, but these are players that have proved to us time and time again that we can rely on them.

SWP, for years has been one of our best players, we received the biggest transfer fee for this player when we were in the shit. He's a regular in the England squad often scoring too. He's an ex player of the year winner, he's scored goals that have helped City get into the top division, goals that have saved us from relegation, derby day goals, the equaliser in the comeback against Spurs and many, many more. He gets us excited when he does one of his mazy runs, he tracks back, he tackles, he plays in any position without moaning and most importantly he keep repeating how much he loves the club and mainly the fans.

Ireland, another former player of the year (most recent winner infact), the only created midfielder in the squad. The Irish national team keep begging for him to come back because he's rated so highly (although they're not the best footballing nation but still..), when on form can chip in with plenty of goals and assists and will run forever. He, like SWP is another who has spoke about his love for the club (even if he was a red as a kid), he's said he wants to be like Scholes is to United. He's actually gave up his last two summers as well to be as fit as possible to play for us.

Micah, was getting back to his best before his injury and is the youngest England defender ever. Can play right back or centre half, chips in with a few goals, has strong powerful runs, good tackler and great in the air. When he was at his best and United and a few other clubs were after him, he carried on playing for us, even when we wern't very good. So another that loves the club.

I'm not saying these 3 players have all been great recently and I'm not saying they're top 4 starters, but some of the abuse they have received recently isn't fair.

SWP was one of our better players this season until he kept getting put in and out of the team or on the left wing. Then AJ replaced him, which was the correct decision, but SWP proved that in the big games like Chelsea and United, that he still had class and AJ wasn't ready for them yet.

Stevie started the season good, not as good as last year but still good enough to warrant a place. He then had a heart attack scare and thought he might've died and he hasn't been the same since, but he can still get that back. Form is temporary, class is permanent. It also doesn't help when he's being played right wing, left wing, defensive mid and sub.

Micah had a poor season last year but has started to show signs that he's getting back to his best as the season has gone on.

So I'd like to know why people don't think these 3 are good enough for us now. Would people like O'Shea or Wes Brown at City? No. But they're the sort of players you need in the squad of a top 4 team.

SWP, Stevie, Micah and Ned and Zaba are the types of players that will help us to success in the future yet might not player a full part.

So how about people on here do what we do at games and get behind the players that have helped us this far, that love us and the club and that deserve it more than most. They are good enough, they've all proved it at some point.

this is the tricky part. There are some players that might be fine playing a bit part but for the most part collecting a hefty pay, but these are all pretty young players who have a lot of football left in them who might want to go elsewhere if they always get into a team.

If they want to leave for regular football, then that's fine. But at the moment they've all just said how much they love the club and want to stay which is what you want to hear from all your players. They could just be our reliable squad players or if they get a good run, they might even take their chance and make the step up and become a regular.

I just can't understand why people are wanting to get rid of the true blues who have been with us through the shit and are clearly good players just because they think we can buy any fucker we want.

For me
Ned is the most improved player of the lot.
Zabba, hard working but not sure how long he has before hes overtaken/replaced
SWP, Needs to stop listening to his Dad. I love the guy for everything hes done, but asking for another 20k is greedy (You earn an increase on the pitch)
Micah, Needs to keep his head down and learn his trade. (He wont get a better chance with the players City are bringing in)

That said if they are not happy we would not miss them

Thats a fair post, I do think Micah would of gone if he had the chance at the end of the 07/08 season but saying that you could of hardly blamed him the shit we were in.
I think its very inportant to keep players who have an understanding of Manchester City and all 3 of them have a very good understanding of our club, Dunny had this aswell but thats another topic.
I will be gutted when/if we sell any of them as i were when Dunny went but time waits for no man.

Class post

If we only kept one it would be Micah for me, he's had his lapses but he will learn. He's got passion and gets forward and scores more than any other defender we have, a lot more to come from him.

Great post. But if I may add something. All 3 are staying, its simple. Next years new squad player regulations. 8 players trained in England and at least 4 of those at the club. Stevie, SWP (maybe) Richards and Onouha with the possiblity of Hart. Which academy products can we trust with a sqaud place other then those 4(5)?

Yeah good point as well. I can't see why people want rid. Some people have very short memories.

True. Do these players really love the club or does it depend on whether they are a regular pick. These three have taken us through some dull and grey seasons but you have to appreciate the simple facts in front of you. We can buy. If they don't have the stomach for a fight or the willingness to improve, much as I have loved them perhaps more than they have loved the club, they know where the next contract could be, and where the door is. (Didn't like writing that last bit.)

At the end of the day SWP and Ireland especially have under performed this season, we're not just talking a run of 2 or 3 games we're looking at most of the season so of course they're going to get a fair bit of stick because we know what they are capable of but sadly for the vast majority of the season we've not seen anything on a consistant basis of what they are capable of when on top of their game. Just because they're from the acadamy shouldn't mean that people aren't right to question them and while i like all 3 of them and would like them to be kept they will probably all want first team football sooner rather than later and i'm not sure if they've got the consistancy to be good enough to start for a team who wants to challenge for the title but we'll see

Absolute drivel of a post, ask yourself the question......... does one want to win silverware? Because with willace, supertramp and 50 pence we will always be on the outside looking in. And as one of the posters alluded to, yes we need homegrown players, hence our transfer strategy looking at the odd player here and there, i also believe out of the 3 that micah should be the one we take a gamble on...... break it down for ya skippy

Hart/shay also qualifies

Ned/lescot/richards/bridge/barry/bell/A Johnson/M Johnson/

10 there without the tweaks, which are inevitable.

Don't hold any allegiance to these type of players, they hold none other than adding zero's to the payslip.

Micah has been fantastic this season, his work rate and his general performances. The lad has definately upped it from last season and good on him, I wrote him off, I even hated him at some points last year. When he was caught out positionally time and time again but credit to the lad he got his head screwed on this season and listened. Well played Micah Richards.

I agree about Ireland and the heart attack scare, that will take time to mentally recover from. I'm guessing we'll see his best next season...
