Serious consideration is being given to bringing in a central defender this month. With Kolo Touré potentially absent until mid-February should Ivory Coast reach the Africa Cup of Nations final, City have only three experienced players in that position: Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic and Joleon Lescott.

Dedryck Boyata has been recalled from his loan spell at FC Twente but Mancini would like a defender of first-team calibre. The manager would prefer a permanent signing rather than a loan deal, with Everton's Sylvain Distin, a former City defender whose contract expires in the summer, broadly fitting the profile.

It looks like Mancini doesn't trust Lescott which is a shame as he can still do a job with us. As for Distin, he had done well for us in the past, but in my opinion his best days are long gone.

I'm sure that's bollocks, Distin will never be back in City.

Just for the record, why would we need 3 left-footed centre backs? I'm hopeful that Kompany will play now in every game then why should we swap Lescott and Nastasic with someone else.

And let's not forget we've still got Rekik in (another left-footed CB, haha).

10 years ago he was a great signing. Now he would be a laughable one.

Wouldn't go that far been 1 of the leagues best defenders this season. Even at 35 I've not seen anyone beat him for pace.
In terms of where we are and who we have already, he would be a laughable signing in my opinion. Whatever the problem is with Lescott it's up to Mancini, but the facts are that he and Kompany were outstanding last season. We also now have Nastasic who, so far, looks competent at the very least and will go on to be one of the best I think. With Toure in the background I would be disheartened to see a player like Distin come in. As I say, 10 years ago he and Anelka were signings I never thought i'd see at City, but that was then and this is now. Unless it was a world class defender in the Hummels bracket so that Nastasic can bide his time, I see no point in bringing in anyone, particularly a player like Distin.

I preferred him to Dunne for all those years, now he'd be back-up & nothing more.

I never really rated Dunne, it was hard for people to accept he was only ever a decent player after the money came in and that mid table will always be the table he dines at

Corrected

This is a joke article again - why the hell would we even think of replacing Lescott with Distin.

Another load of s**te from the paps
