When I was in salaried employment I inadvertently got on self assessment. The tax man would not allow me off it.The figure if it is 37billion maybe more maybe less would still be there even if these magical loopholes were closed and waste was reduced, so either way those who break the law and dont pay the correct tax from taking cash are stealing from us. Not the tax man, not the govt in general, us.
Now if I was to grab a tenner out of your back pocket and you caught me as Shania Twain says that wouldn't impress you much.
This look over there someone else is doing something doesn't wash, its a lazy argument.
You get nabbed by the police speeding whilst having a dead body in your boot.......
Fuck me judge that Hamiton bloke does 200 mph and Fred West was a right murdering ****.
Good point sir on your way.
Im not sure it works that way.
:-)
One year they decided I had underpaid tax by £800. (In 1998 that was a lot of money) They wanted payment immediately.
Despite my firm stating they had deducted the correct amount of tax and they were aware of this so called anonomaly they would not pursue it with the IR as they were too powerful.
I tried fighting on my own and all I achieved was getting it paid over 2 months. I asked the tax man why they were not chasing the rest of the staff, if I had underpaid so had they. His answer was that they weren't on self assessment.
From that moment on I decided I would pay as little as possible. When I became self employed, well let's just I got my £800 back.
