Taking kids to City game

If/when you take them a word of advice. My dad took me to Maine Road when I was about 5 about 1955, not sure when, sat me on the wall behind the goal at the scoreboard end. Remember he didn't pay as he took me in with him and I was allowed to duck under the turnstile. Someone scored but don't have a clue who, just know it was a City player at our end.

My point is record it. Get a programme, put in the team and who scored any goals etc. Watch the team arrive. Perhaps record the game at home and keep it safe. Regret to this day I don't know the details of my first game. Just remember it was a great day out with my dad and, of course, I was hooked.

I'd say the only legitimate reason to buy a half and half scarf is as a record of a kid's first game.

My lads first game was 2 months prior to birth in the David White game at Villa, does that count?

Wouldn't have taken Mrs Moon but we were in the seats for the rearranged game & couldn't give her ticket away.

Nice record to have that as a blue.

But I bet someone can beat it...

Do the family stand in a cheap cup match. They'll get a flag to wave, some sweets and probably see Moonchester. I've done a few with my two, and they ask when we can go back. I can't tell them £150 for a family is too much for 1 match.

Agreed 100%, cup matches are an excellent way to start out

I took my daughter to the Play Off Final in '99 when she was 4.5. She enjoyed it at the time, but it was a long day. She fell asleep during the game and we woke her up for the penalties. What she remembers of it now is A) Having her face painted B) Some nasty bastard steward at the turnstile, who said no flags and snapped the cane from it in front of her and threw it in the bin. Meanwhile I walked in with a 3 or 4 foot flag! I felt like twatting him, but we didn't have a ticket for her, so I didn't need any more aggro! C) A lady who gave her two blue and white Pom Poms after the game. Always remember that kids never forget kindness...... or miserable cockney wankers!!

Found out i was pregnant the 13 January 2016, about 10.30am. Worked out he was conceived prob 30th Dec based on the way we used to log ovulation and all sorts due to years of trying (who said romance was dead!), so my little boy was actually 2 weeks old as a foetus at his first city game, as i sat in my usual season ticket seat that night against Everton!!

My growing bump still went to the rest of that season, and managed a match 2 weeks before he was born in the Sept as well.

Took him to his first match as an actual human rather than foetus in April this year (!) for the 1-0 win against spurs, age 2. Too young, yes, but after i had to wait until i was 10 to finally get taken i just wanted him to have one, even if he didn't go for a few years after that. He loved pre match outside, loved inside, til the booming speakers started - he's not great with noise we've found out, and then when we scored on 5 minutes it made him cry and we went on the concourse. He fell asleep after 10 min on my partners knee by the toilets (who was using my mums seat)... so mum of the year that i am i went back in to watch the rest of the match ;) He woke up at the final whistle then had a whale of a time flag waving and dancing outside.

Glad i took him, my dad died suddenly less than 2 weeks later, so at least dad knew i took my son to his first match.. :(

Bit of a waffle there - but couldn't resist a post when reading people talk of someone going while pregnant counting as a "first" match ;)

We're trying him at some of the EDS games to get him used to actual football, he's managed 2 first halves so far, once in April a few days after the spuirs 1st team match, one last week. Again though the noise of the tannoy thumping out music made us have to cover his ears he was getting upset, might have to buy some ear defenders.. He loved the trip out though - and once the EDS kick off it's dead quiet so he followed the game quite well! Dad would be proud he says "Manchester City" all the time... it was the first thing my dad ever said to him when he saw him as a baby the first time. Dad never got to hear him say it. I think i'm going to cry again now, not been coping well tbh since May. Got to stop editing this post and adding more to it.

Fantastic story. Glad you shared it.

Thank you. I keep editing it and adding more! I'm going to log out to stop myself now ;) finally finally after years of trying finally getting pregnant when i'd just turned 41 (creaking joints and all) was such a wonderful moment, i was in a daze of happiness trotting off to that Everton match that night :) A bit scared admittedly at teh life change about to happen, but very very happy.

Logging off now ;)

Meant to add is anyone on here as a steward have any advice on what to do to prove a child is under 5 and therefore free? I've probably got another year maybe before it becomes an issue, but he's so very tall for his age (like his mummy!) people already think he's 3 and a half or 4, when he's only 2 (albeit 3 in a month).

Photo of his passport or birth certificate? My lad has always been tall for his age and when challenged, showing them a picture from his passport did the job.
