Tater ash

Had it with with suet dumplings last night and tonight. I always make a big enough pan to eat the day after, it's one of the few foods that tastes better the second time.

I can't stand it but the junior blues love it. Made it at the weekend and they ate it tonight.

This thread is useless without recopies!

Not that any self respecting Mancunian would not know how to make it, but I find that most families have their own way of making it

Put HP on it tastes great :)

Yep - brown sauce, pickled red cabbage, pickled beetroot always go a treat with it.

Its funny because you can tell a fake Manc when they call it Potato Hash...... its fuckin tater ash mate and if I 'ave to explain it you just ain't got it.

As someone said yes there are all sorts of variations but the basics remain the same - have tried to replicate me mams but just can't get it the same so I have decided my version is the classic now. her Dad made a belter - proper stick to your ribs stuff. Nanna - my Dads mam - hers was a bit watery for me but true to form thats the way my Dad prefers it. A Mancunian lad loves his mams tater ash - even if the mam doesn't like it bluegirl !!. Never fear you'll always have a place in your kids hearts with your pan of ash.
