Francis Maude has been saying this will hurt working single mothers. Cecil Parkinson was unavailable for comment.

Seriously, you can't make pension promises to police officers, teachers, nurses and other civil servants then rip them up when you want to save money. And as for laying people off then asking for volunteers to do the work, they can kiss my arse.

Enjoy while it lasts Cameron. Your party will not see power again for a generation.

Without trying to get into a Political debate/arguement as I can't stand it, I think that the conservatives have drawn the short straw by coming into power after that wanker Brown left us as a country in the shit.

I reckon all the stuff that's happening now is a direct result of Labour's fuck up

Well Cameron did say what he needs to do will probably make sure they are out of power for a generation. Which in my mind tells you how fucked the country was when they took power.

Teachers should get a grip, the public sector have had it good for years and have not felt any effects from the recession! Private sector pensions are basic and risky, you basically get what you originally contributed if your lucky and if the market crashes or your company goes bust then you have lost your pension. Why should teachers have it better than anybody else and why should the tax payer contribute to their pensions which the country can not afford?

Labour certainly left the country in a terrible state. People are entitled to question the speed of the cuts and where the government are choosing to make the cuts (I do so myself) but they are being either disingenuous or a bit stupid if they don't realise that drastic cuts have to be made and that the previous government has to shoulder a fair portion of the blame for what is taking place now. When Labour try to give the impression that there wouldn't have been austerity measures had they got back in, it makes me laugh. Just how fucking stupid do they think we are? Actually, they're right, lots of people are stupid.

Career decisions are made based on many things. People in the public sector accepted that wages would not be great, but went for it anyway as the terms and conditions of the job offered them security. Any government that tries to move the goalposts now will be brought to its knees, and rightly so.

teachers make me fucking sick, they should be glad they still have jobs with for what most of them do is a fucking great wage! all the holidays they get. there a fucking disgrace, here me with redunacy hanging over my head and millions more that have been made redundant would love to be in there shoes right now.

No promises are for ever. Loads of firms have ditched superb final salary pensions over the years. They are now simply unaffordable unless the employee is prepared to put in a very large proportion of their wages. Teachers aren't prepared to do this. They want the rest of us to put that cash in for them!

Why should the general public, nearly all of whom have pension schemes much less generous than even the proposed new, less generous teachers scheme, pay to give public employees fantastic pensions?

Unless something is done about the vastly expensive public sector pensions in a few decades time there will be two classes of pensioner. The ex-state empoyees will be sitting pretty, going on Saga cruises and coach holidays and having the heating on in winter. The rest will be freezing and living on Smart Price beans after spending lots of their earned income paying high taxes to pay for the fantastic pensions of ex teachers, policemen and council pen-pushers.

No thanks.

Give the teachers pensions that they were offered and then pay them by the hour. don't worry about the marking, they can do it till five o clock in the hall, and on the extra half hour at dinner, and if thats not enough, offer em 2 hrs a night overtime at time and a half. think the amount of holidays they have should make up for the extra pay due to overtime. ;)

There's another thing, all these redundancies, in the police, immigration and the emergency services. The council won't have the funds to repair pot holes or street lights, there will be far fewer police on the streets and fewer checks on people entering the country. Oh and more unemployment means desperation and more crime.

-- Wed Jun 15, 2011 1:51 pm --

No, they are asking for trouble if they try to change peoples' terms and conditions without consultation. And they will certainly get it.
