Tech Question

I mentioned a bit back about my computer keep turning off. Possible power supply problem possibly. Anyway it's gone worse now and won't even startup Windows.

So I've tried the recovery disk but it's asking me to format the drive. I don't want to do this as I have a load of files on the disk I couldn't backup. Question is, if I do format the disk, to make it work again, are the files gone forever, or will there be some way of getting them back?

It could be a number of things........processor on it's way out?......power supply?
It's a process of elimination though really to find out exactly what's wrong.
The thing is that once you re-format your hard drive you've lost the lot i'm afraid :(

Have you tried safe mode.

Keep pressing f8 on boot and select safe mode.

If it works you may be able to get yer files that way.

Yeah tried safe mode but won't log onto windows now.

I have a Windows disk but it's asking me to format the hard drive now...

I'd say it was a good bet your PSU is on its way out. This happened to me a few years back. £15 investment, all sorted and lovely.
The computer itself is on the tip though...hehe...although I took the HDD's out!

When you put in Windows Installation Disc don't try safe mode, select repair/recovery mode
