"Outlook repair tool" is "not responding". SCANPST is only at 48kb. Any ideas?

MS KB Article; <a class="postlink" href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497</a>

failing scanpst, do a system restore

failing that, search for your .pst , then copy it. Re-install Outlook and import the .pst

Hmm. Scanpst eventually worked, though slowly, and said it had repaired the outlook.pst file, but Outook itself is "not responding". Massive amount in inbox (1.8gb) and it won't let me delete or archive stuff - is there any "backdoor" way to reduce the inbox?

You could log in through the website of your email provider i.e. <a class="postlink" href="https://mail.google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://mail.google.com</a>
and get your emails that way
