only got 2 weeks so spending a couple of nights in BK then either Samet or Pattaya .. any tips?
If you spend 12 days in Samet you will go out of your mind with boredom. If you spend 12 days in Pattaya you will lose all your money and come home with more than you bargained for!! Have a look at airasia.com for some cheap internal flights to the likes of ChiangMai, Krabi, Phuket etc. PM me if you want any tips but 3 days Samet, 3 days Pattaya is plenty in those two places. That leaves 6 days for elsewhere. BKK is superb in December so perhaps stay there a little longer than 2 days. I lived there for 5 years so can advise you on pretty much any sort of night out you want.

Great to spend xmas in thailand.Stayed ko samui good not as busy as pattaya but much better beaches .Also you could go on the ferry an go to the full moon party on kho phangan.Exchange rates not great at the moment though

You can do BOTH Samet and Pattaya actually. Samet is only about an hour or so from Patty. You only need two nights max there as its quiet. It might be a nice break from Patty right in the middle of it as 12 days in Patty might do your head (both big one and small one) in!

if you see a big wave, run

I was actually on Koh Lanta just south of Phuket 2 days before the tsunami hit ... another live gone I think. My 2 mates have bars in Patty ( one is in soi post office ) and I was last there about 14 years ago ( useless with dates but Mo Johnstone signed for Rangers when I was there ;-)

I wasn't keen on Pattaya so we headed down to Koh Samui and then caught the ferry over to koh Pahngan. Stayed in the President Solitare (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.presidentsolitaire.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.presidentsolitaire.com</a>) in Bangkok and booked it through Laterooms.com which only cost us £37 per night for a room in a 5 star hotel.
