I go in 10 days. Anyone got anywhere to recommend for me? (Bar the obvious koh phangnan, samui and phi phi islands)

Island hoping around the bay whose name escapes me, just off Ao Nang.

Chiang mai.

Ton sai beach.

Depends what you are looking for. Beaches, nightlife, scenery etc.

I loved Phuket as it had something for everybody. Krabi is also nice, though it's quieter and the beaches aren't as good. Khao Lak is laid back but quite Scandinavian dominated. Some beautiful and quiet beaches in Satun and Trang provinces but there not a huge amount to do beside the beach.

Bangkok has plenty to do if you're into cities. Chiang Mai is a smaller city which has lovely countryside and mountains just outside. Many people go there for the hill tribe trekking, A bit cooler than the South too usually.

There are loads of other areas worth a visit too if you want a more authentic Thai experience.

Get to Pattaya to be shagged and fleeced you'll come back wrecked but thinking it's all been a dream???

If it's islands Ko Chang or ko kood on the far eastern coast, not far from cambodia, still quite unspoilt though Ko Chang was getting more and more interest from backpackers.
(though I havent been there for a few years)

On that stay away from backpackers cheapskate scuffs, a 4 star hotel cost £20 and staying in a shithole shack with no hot water or a fan for 2 quid isn't going native you twats

Stay a few days in Bangkok though it's worth it, and if you travel north or south flying is cheap enough (£20-£30) and normally flights have room BKK to chiang mai or phuket are about an hr and better than a 7 - 12 hr bus ride.

I am over there mid july but me n the missus are straight up to her family and her village in the north east.

Lastly it can rain heavily in the south at this time of year and have flooding but is normally still good to visit

*Ignore the spoiler bit if you are backpacking btw :-)

I had to read it but we're just gonna go to hotels anyway I think! We land in Bangkok and then we're going down to Koh Phangnan for the Full Moon Party and then heading where ever after but Ko Chang sounds like a good little spot now I've looked it up. Isn't one of them getting shut down in October though?

Fly into Bangkok book a superb apartment not a hotel, 3 nights partying, take in Golden Palace, Leaning Buddha etc
Flight to Koh Samui then boat to Koh Phangan for full moon party, hire a decent quad bike, better than a scooter as island is so hilly! Flight to Phuket for few nights party then 5 days diving on a love aboard in the similian/ Andaman Islands, take in James Bond Island and Ko Phi Phi. Fly back to Bangok then fun times at Anglewitch gogo bar. Take in kick boxing at Lumphinee and watch a bird shoot a banana out her pussy, watch out for the soapy massage and enjoy the delicious Thai street food

I dont think anyone pays £2 a night to be native, they pay £2 a night so that they can stay there for longer than 2 weeks while not having a job. On that I paid £8 a night for an aircon room with most amenities so dont have to pay £20 either. Alot of backpackers are twats though but the accommodation thing is more so you could afford 3 more changs that night

Aye I agree on you can get good cheap accomodation, I have paid arround £8-£10 for basic rooms with air com/hot water to save money, the comment more was aimed more at those that do it because they think they are, as I said "going native", when they are doing nowt of the sort the protentious twats. If I have a choice I stay in cheaper rooms to save money.

Also beer chang?? piss that is, Can only have Leo beer or acha, chang is horrible

Chang is okay if its around the 6% kind the 9% kind is fucking rough
I drank Leo practically every day for 3 months by practically I mean actually
With the going "local" stuff used to see wankers with bare fit so was more "local", I used to love pointing out they all have shoes on because they are not morons

May be, I know they are closing areas down to protect the coral, but as I tend to get stuck up in the landlocked north east visiting family I haven't been for a while, though my lad is moving to Rayong so we are probably going down ko samet, visiting him on the way

I dont think Chang is being shut, sure its a smaller island near Phi Phi / James Bond island ..

Samet is great for a wee break from the crowds and pretty cheap for everything, little or no girly bars as well

I love samet, been about 6 times with mates, the family and took my parents a couple of years ago. so chilled and away from the crowds. Always try to go there if I am on the east coast, though I do like Pattaya too for a weekend to visit old friends though it's my first choice (I lived there for 6 minths when 20 years old and working seasonally.)

Stay in the casa de la flora in khao lak in a beach-front villa... though don't watch tsunami at khao lak on you tube the day before you go...

aye I love Vong Dourn bay ( spelling lol ) and the top beach where Ploy's is

Going for the last 2 weeks of October; flying into Bangkok but heading straight down to Phuket the same day, then to Phi Phi, then Krabi and finally back up to Bangkok for a couple of nights before flying home. Too old for hostels these days so hotels all the way for 12 nights, return flights from Manchester with Turkish and 2 internal flights, coming in about £600pp so not too shabby.

Have a great time OP!
