I’m in Ao Nang. Anyone recommend a sports bar to watch the Bournemouth v City game? With the time difference now 6 hours should be fine for bar to be open late with a kick off at 10.30 pm

I was in Ao Nang. at christmas went up to the lamdmark night market on Nopparat tarrat beach, was a big sports bar next to the thai boxing show, also an Irish bar called the irish embassy that had all English games on watched the west ham game in the sports bar first half and went to the irish bar for the second, was a few blues from droyslden in there.

There was also a beach side bar called luna beach bar had prem games on but also a united flag (amongst others) hanging from the ceiling so I couldn't bring myself to go in.

never drank on the main beach but once, too many weed bars and scouse cunts at the time (maybe because christmas) , felt more like benidorm than Thailand on that side ;-)

Thanks. Yes Ao Nang beach not great I’m actually at Klong Muang and Irish bar is nearby so I’ll go and ask after enjoying the sunset

There is something wrong drinking Guinness in Thailand. Chang is an Everton drink so it has to be Singha or Leo but that’s in a red can. Shinawatra’s daughter is President of Thailand

Better facilities, beaches and cleaner sea (or at least that used to be the case). I lived there for 15 years and loved it but friends still living there tell me it has gone downhill quite rapidly in recent years.

Krabi and Phang Nga are very scenic but perhaps lack a bit on the excitement/entertainment side. I guess it depends on what people want from their holiday. I enjoyed visiting them for a couple of days but wouldn't have wanted to live there. Of course they may have changed quite a bit in the last 10 years too.
 
We are just back after 3 months in Thailand, the last 3 weeks in 2 locations in Phuket. It is true to say that Phuket has, and still is undergoing massive development. There are however still areas that are relatively unspoilt. Traffic in the high season (Dec-Feb) can be horrendous, but we found the last 2 weeks to be fine. There are certain pinch points that need to be avoided. Prices are higher than, say, in Khao Lak but as long as you stick to "local" dishes, it is normal to eat for about £10-12 for 2 with a couple of drinks each. There is no doubt the Ukraine war has changed the make up of the island but there appears to be something of a local backlash form the locals against the long stay Russians. If you haven't been don't let it put you off but be careful where you stay depending on your personal tastes-for example I wouldn't stay in Patong if you paid me but many love it.
 
Phuket is huge obviously still.lots of places to explore
Kamala at the moment is pretty perfect a mix of ex pats and locals

We did spend 12 days based in Kamala and apart from Nai Yang is our favourite. Kamala being only 8km from Patong could be next for a surge of building but I really hope not.

They now have 3 superb supermarkets
But the worry is one of the new casinos is earmarked for there
