Thames water is likely to go into public ownership temporarily, 32% owned by Canadian pension fund apparently , no wonder they are much interested in dividends than stopping pumping raw sewage into our rivers. The CEO has stepped down with immediate effect bless her. Straight into another big company I expect

maybe they will fix the leaks and build some reservoirs once ran under public stewardship like in the olden days

Water privatisation was a scam from tge start, honestly how can TW be £14B in debt while having paid out £160B in dividends the last decade or so. fucking ridiculous way to run a public service

Of all the privatisations, this was by some distance the most unjustifiable. Absolutely no discernible benefit to the consumer. It’s part of the nation’s infrastructure and should be state owned.

South east water has put a hose pipe ban in place even thou the reservoirs are 99% full. They are blaming the working from home as to why they cant get the water to the taps.
Yet it has one of the highest leak rates in the country.

Water is needed for life, why sell it of to any tom dick or harry. All these decades on and this country is still being screwed by what Thatcher did. Lack of water, power companies just about coping, shed loads of sewage pumped daily into our rivers and seas. Lack of council houses, the list goes on.

Just to rub salt into our wounds they used our taxes to bury the witch.

Even though we all have to,I've never agreed about the price of water bills in this country, particulary as we getting loads of it for free coming from the skies ffs 10 months of the year

This is the oldest and laziest theme in public services policy. Nobody has ever answered this question: what was the alternative to privatisation given that by 1970 our water infrastructure was disastrous?
Since then £160 billion has been invested, 65% of beaches are rated excellent by EU standards up from 25%, leaks are down by 35%, water quality has improved greatly, dead rivers have been revived.
How would you have found £160 billion?
Ideally, it should be state owned but, when it was, it was neglected for 100 years.
