The ‘empty seats’ myth peddled by Liverpool supporters

So that Liverpool fan embarrassed himself with a completely false fact, that he believed to be true and then has ran off?

If you think that was bad, there was a Liverpool fan on Twitter earlier claiming Maine Road has never had a capacity of more than 60,000! Worse still, he was calling out a fellow Liverpool fan who was defending us for “talking shite”!

Don't know what the big stress is ........
Would you rather have a few empty seats and trophies
Or Full houses and fook all in the trophy cabinet ?????
The media will try beating you down because frankly there is nothing else to pull you up on ............

Go to the Emptyhad and you will hear mostly Mancunian accents.

Go to Anfield and Old Trafforrd and you will hear mostly accents from across Europe and the World.

Keep your stadiums full of tourists, day trippers and #istory glory hunters.

We may not have your international or national fan base, but our matchday going fan base will always be more local.

Is this what is commonly referred to as an 'epic fail'?

To be fair, we have been masters of this as well :-)

There is no smoke without fire.

Liverpool haven't had less than 33,000 at Anfield for over 25 years. City had 33,000 for their carabao cub semi final in the year they are supposed to be chasing the quadruple. To put it into perspective Liverpool's lowest attendance over the last 2 years is 47000.

The average attendance at the Etihad is normally pretty close to full capacity so I don't really agree that you can't fill your stadium. There is however a very obvious problem that your fan base is made up very particularly of people who can only motivate themselves for premier league games on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon which I believe does need to be discussed and is clearly a problem. I mean you only managed 30270 seats on a champions league night!!! To compare, there was 47.500 at Anfield to watch Liverpool beat Maribor who are an even worse team than Munchengladbach.

Lastly, when your own manager has to come out to the media and beg fans to come to the stadium because he was perplexed by so many empty seats you have to sit up and start taking notice. Stop burying your heads in the sand claiming it's all a myth then trying to claim Liverpool supporters are worse which is what the OP claimed.

How old are you?

Do you remember?

Liverpool fans never gave a shit about City or City fans. All they were bothered about were United and Everton.

In-fact, Liverpool fans used to like City as both sets of fans hated United.

Liverpool playing City was 4 points and then 6 points guaranteed every season for Liverpool. City were regular canon fodder for Liverpool.

Roll on post Sheikh Mansour. Investment, trophies, etc.

The reason why Liverpool fans now hate City is because City have stopped Liverpool, and are stopping Liverpool from winning trophies.

In the last 10 season’s since Sheikh Mansour bought City, City have won 10 trophies, Liverpool have won 1 trophy.

In that 10 years City and United have won 24 trophies combined. Liverpool and Everton have won 1 trophy combined.

Liverpool fans go on about the money City have spent. United and Arsenal have been going on about that for 10 years.

Liverpool have ‘net spent well over £300mill’ in the last few seasons. The ‘net spend’ was only achievable because your best players want to leave and play for Barcelona and City. Without those transfers Liverpool’s transfer spend would have been hindered by FFP, which Liverpool voted for.

Liverpool’s wage bill has leapt by 26%, the highest rise of any PL club. In comparison City’s wage bill went up by a modest 7%.

For the 2nd consecutive season Liverpool have paid the most agents fees out of all the PL clubs.

FSG’s, Jurgen’s, and Liverpool’s desperation to try and catch City, and to stop City from winning another title, has turned Liverpool into the early Sheikh Mansour, City. Spending £100’s of millions on players, player wages, and agent fees.

Liverpool are now everything Liverpool fans accuse City of being.

But it will all be worth it come the end of the season if Liverpool win the title. There won’t be a single Liverpool fan, ex-Liverpool player, or Liverpool pro-pundit reflecting on how Liverpool won the title, and what Liverpool have become.

Liverpool are now just another football club owned by foreign billionaires, spending 100’s millions on players, on players wages, and on agents fees. Liverpool are no different to City or any other modern day football club. Just remember that. And that goes for any other Liverpool fan lurking.

Sadly this is mo longer true, the Etihad is just as big a melting pot as the swamp and Klanfield.

Thousands of locals priced out in the last few years.

Not really.

The overwhelming majority of fans inside the Etihad are local fans.

I go to Anfield and old Trafford every season.

Both are like Diensy Land.

But yes, the season ticket and matchday ticket price rises have forced and priced many local City fans out.

Paying £58 for a adult matchday ticket is obscene.

I will be amazed, but not surprised, if Khalddon and Soriano force a 10th season ticket and matchday ticket price rise on City fans next season, even though City have signed numerous new sponsorship deals, have signed a new kit deal, and will be making £100’s of million from our league and cup runs, as well as PL and CL TV money.

Just did a little research and would now like to put this silliness to bed. Source is soccerstats.com.

Our average attendance this season is 54,087 and on average the ground is 98.2% full.

Liverpool’s average attendance this season is 52,926 and on average their ground is 97.9% full.

Which is less full than ours. There are, as a %, more empty seats at their ground.

End of chat.

Change the title the rags started this myth 5 years ago, and as with most of their lies and propoganda it has now become a false fact used by other clubs fans including the scousers who are obviously at it more atm because of the title race.

It is deffinately all down to the filthly swamp dwellers though this bullshit

Anyway fuck em all, who gives a shite what they think, plenty of fans of other clubs were out defending us on social media over the weekend and even the telegraph did am article about wembley that kind of commended us for not turning up if we couldn't.

No one cares about this but those 2 clubs who have very large inferiority complexes hence why they cannot handle an average season, whiney ****s that they are.

As an American who's going on his dozenth City match traveled to from 5,500 miles away, who fell in love with club when Keegan was manager and City was average at best, who spends a absolute pissload of money and time just have the sheer joy of 90 minutes at the Etihad once in awhile, who loves the fans and has gotten to know some who have been following the club for generations and met their families, who has learned (and thinks he even understands) nearly all of the songs, who has been out on piss-ups with Mancs who have treated me like one of their own, who wakes up at 4:30 am just to catch matches live, let me just say something:

Let's cut to the chase, shall we? You're afraid your side can't beat City, so you glom onto whatever perceived weakness you think you can find to soothe yourself in case the unthinkable happens and you end up with 97 points and no trophies once AGAIN.

You're scared of that feeling of darkness and gloom when your side chokes away the best season it will ever have in the league to suck up City's sloppy seconds.

You're petrified of going to whatever job you have on a Monday after Match 38 and having to face the legion of fans of other clubs who laugh and ridicule your continuing run of abject failure, despite the fact that you've put your heart and soul and every emotion into your hopes.

I know it, and so do you. That's why you've attacked this topic with your 8th (eyeroll) post like some glory-starved hyena.

As a selfish prick, personally, whatever you think, it annoys me that its harder to get tickets than it used to be, and that our matches get moved more often so it's harder to plan an affordable trip across the pond. City matches have THE highest TV audiences in the USA this season. It isn't going to get easier as long as City keep succeeding.

So keep it up, Tinkerbelle. City fans have heard it all. The Sheikh will get tired, bunch of mercenaries, FFP will kill you, the oil will run out, Aguero to Real Madrid, Pep's going to Utd, blah blah blah blah fuckety blah. None of it has been right, and a few years from now you'll be wrong. Again.

The daft thing is, most of those doing the criticising don't go to matches themselves or don't come from a local working class background either. Should we be bothered by it? To be honest, we shouldn't. Most true football fans know the issues of juggling cash when it comes to matches, but City having such a good side these days will always make us a target for something. It's mad really because our fanbase was praised up and down the country for turning up in numbers when we were in the 3rd tier but because we don't have anything like the same numbers of out of towners, tourists, etc, that United and Liverpool have to take up the slack if several thousand of our regular match-goers choose to give the FA Cup semi final a miss this time round due to the number of fixtures and potential fixtures that lie ahead then we get pelters for it in some quarters.

And despite all those OOT'ers and tourists who follow United, it's interesting to note that the FA Cup semi-final between Everton and United 3 years ago saw Everton sell out their allocation yet United didn't.

The ones that don’t go are always the biggest pricks, they feel they have to try harder.

There’s no doubt that City have been watched by the highest cumulative crowds this season, most likely in the world.
