The 2025 Rebuild of City Squad

Our money men need to open up the purse.

It's gonna be a monumental spend.

Probably our busiest transfer window in our recent history.

Walker
Gundo
Kev
Bernie
Eddie
Doku
Nunes
Grealish

All gone.

Rico
O Reilly
McAtee
Wright

All need clarification on their futures. Wether it's bit part appearance in games, moved on or loaned out.

We won't sign any worldies. We never do.

Rodri backup should be number 1 priority along with Halaand partner (backup).

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild?

This shouldn’t even be a question. The answer is of course yes.

2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025?

Definites:

Walker, Gundogan, Grealish, McAtee and Nunes.

Possibles:

De Bruyne, Bernardo, Ederson and Stones.

3 - Which players should be offered new contracts?

Rodri.

3b - What players should we be targetting?

Frimpong/Kounde/Hakimi, Bah, Zubimendi/Pepelu, Ederson, Wirtz/Musiala/Simons, Rodrygo

4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild, i.e. Txiki or Hugo Viana

Viana.

5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission?

We risk missing out on a top four finish if we wait until a decision has been reached.

6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild?

In excess of £300m over three windows.

7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club?

Continue to back Pep and our players.

Hate saying this but it’s not just about a few windows or a given that as we have money all will be sweet in a while.
We have the result of the charges to look forward to.
City have been the shining light in Europe for what 8 years and players aspire to come to us as they want to be in the Rolls Royce team but suddenly we may not have the allure.
Lots of clubs not just in this country have very wealthy owners if this continues we may miss out on the cream that we got used to acquiring a couple of years ago.
Is it a given Rodri will want to stay?
Grim talk but Pep the blue will sort this.I think.Maybe.Hopefully.

I think neither Doku, Nunes nor Grealish will leave next summer. We need a midfielder and backup striker before any outgoings, and it looks like Ederson, Walker, Gundogan, McAtee and KDB will leave. Could even see Bernardo and one of Stones/Ake go as well. Just too many incomings and outgoings to let Doku, Nunes or Grealish to leave

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild?Yes
2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025? Walker and Ederson but it difficult for the rest. It depends on the budget and who we can actually bring to replace our aging stalwarts.
3 - Which players should be offered new contracts?Dias and Rodri again after that it is hard to pick for this season.
3b - What players should we be targetting?Certainly midfield and a wing back or whoever Pep Guardiola and Hugo decide they want to replace Kyle Walker with. An extra striker would be useful but finding one that is content in being rotated is extremely rare.
4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild, i.e. Txiki or Hugo Viana?Hugo Viana.
5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission? If we are planning on spending heavily then we should wait for the verdict.
6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild?I am not sure but read on here there is apparanetly £400m to spend. It is set by Shekh Mansour and Khaldoon al Mumbarak with possibly some input from Ferran Soriano
7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club?Just keep backing them. They have achieved near enough the impossible by winning 4 league titles in a row and along with winning the Champions League, European Super-Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The future success of city will not be centred around the three blokes in that last line mate.We are in trouble if we are reliant on them.

We have to try for these types of players and both if possible together.
Maybe not paying a City Tax for Gallacticos...maybe shrewd scouting that brought us players like Yaya, Kev, Stones and good academy throughput like Phil without too hasty binning off young players like Palmer...ffs

1 - Yes

2 - Anyone who doesn't act like they wanna be here tfb, Pep will know this. However my list from looking at the squaf
Have to leave: Walker, Gundogan, Ake (sicknote)
Look for buyers: Grealish, Edersom, Stones (sicknote)
If the offer is right: Bernardo, Doku, Nunes and even Haaland if he continues to act like he wants out

3 - KDB with the understanding hes gonna be a bench option, Haaland if he shows he wants to stay

3b - I know Pep likes technical players but we NEED some pace and power i addition to technique. Need some players between 22-28, we need players ready for today

Winter we NEED a RB (Vanderson/Kayode) and a CM (Zubimendi/Ederson)

Wirtz, Kvaratskhelia, Musiala, Rodrygo is the standard we need for our new creative outlet

Backup striker I genuinely don't know, ots a hard position tbf as few will play backup to Haaland

4 - Either, both, the extended team. Don't know enough about it

5 - We shouldn't care, but the club will naturally and think that's understandable. Thankfully we'd know before the summer window. Winter window we NEED to act to save what little there is to save this season.

6 - Whatever it takes because who cares, if we are cleared of the 115, after getting cleared under UEFA FPP, we've got a free run. Too long we have worried about being sustainable and the net spenders, let's be aggressive

Could easily spend £500mil between the next 2 windows and still be a way away from being where we want to given how expensive everyone is

7 - Just gotta support I guess, but the players/Pep/board have to show US something as well

Doku isn’t one to go for me, he is inconsistent but he can open space.

Still feel he is a better sub then starter, but I think given where we are he holds a place in the squad.

KDB
Carson
Gundogan (all expiring)

Nunes (not just from today, but will be tough to sell and big loss)
Walker (more confident a deal can be done on this one)
McAtee (one year left so a sale seems best)
Ederson/ Ortega (think one of the other will go)
Various other youth/ loan players.

This would leave 2 GK (hope Academy would provide one and second a very decent back up)
RB (first team)
3 Midfielders (at least 2 proper first team)
Plus 2 others to improve the size of our squad, possibly a winger (first team) and a back up striker.

Although if a rated CB was available, I could see that being an option.

We’re down ATM but the squad is still very decent, we just need to supplement with some real quality.

We then need a further rebuild next season with the likes of Stones, Bernardo going.

I'm interested why you didn't include nico Williams? No one ever seems to mention him

Pep isn't in charge of bringing players in he has a say but look at the players we have brought in Doku Nunes Philips none peps picks!

I will keep Ake and KDB , If Doku and Savio don't show improvement by the summer, one of them could be sold as well
I never thought I'd rue Mahrez's departure but here we are. With hindsight, I'd probably take him over both those players.

Genuinely don’t think we need the a full rebuild, this squad won the league last season. What we need is surgery in midfield (and a new RB)

We cannot possibly keep KDB a minute longer than the last game of this season. He is absolutely finished at our level. Undeniably a club legend but so far off it now it’s sad to watch.

I think this rebuild is so important it deserves its own thread. I know there are some, though I expect few who will say we will be fine once we get over the injuires, but I think those fans are getting fewer.

There are some questions that are important for the rebuild.

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild?
2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025?
3 - Which players should be offered new contracts?
3b - What players should we be targetting?

We definitely need a rebuild, but I am concerned players are not bought for Pep’s system as a new manager in maybe a 1 or 2 years if Pep leaves, may not want his players and the transition will take longer.

As fans, today is another huge blow in a period of really poor form. We don’t seem to have turned the corner. A win against United today may have given everyone a big boost and, with a week until the next game given the players could have had a chance to regroup and consolidate. I imagine the morale among the players will be as low as it is for us fans. Today we can be forgiven for showing our disapproval of the players, coaches and even recruiting team. Tomorrow we need to get back behind them it is not as if we have another team to support. We are blues, once a blue always a blue.

Now for the rebuild!
1. Yes
2. Gundogan, Kev, Walker, Stones.
3. Rodri, Haaland, Foden, Dias, Bobb, Ortega, Grealish, Lewis, Gvardiol.
4. Hugo Viana.

This is roughly what we need to try and do over the next 2 windows IMO:

Sell or release:

Ederson
Walker
Nunes
Gundogan
KDB
Bernardo
McAtee

Listen to offers, but happy to keep as squad players:

Stones
Ake
Kovacic
Grealish

Must sign:

1 young goalkeeper to rotate with and ultimately succeed Ortega
1 right back to replace Walker
1 left back
At least 1 centre back (2 if one of Stones/Ake leaves)
At least 2 midfielders (3 if one of Kovacic/Grealish leaves) - one to cover Rodri, one to replace KDB
1 goalscoring winger, preferably from the left
1 backup striker

If any of those roles can be filled by academy players or the likes of Echeverri/Perrone, great. But if not, get the wallet out.

How many players do we need to get in would you think between January and start of next season? Your post would Indicate maybe 2 or 3?

If creative midfield players like Wirtz and Musiala are unavailable to us due to high cost or they sign new contracts with their clubs I would consider the following midfielders as alternatives.

Enzo Millot, Franko Mastantuono, Sverre Nypan, Xavi Simons, Georgiy Sudakov, Charles De Ketelaere, Martin Baturina, Maghnes Akliouche.

All of the above are having great seasons and capable of creating and scoring.

These are young hungry players, some are very young but this is a rebuild we need and all of the names above will be highly sought after and we may assume will not remain at a reasonable cost for long.

Enzo Millot has a €20m buyout clause and is having a very strong season in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart.
