The 2025 Rebuild of City Squad

Genuinely don’t think we need the a full rebuild, this squad won the league last season. What we need is surgery in midfield (and a new RB)
I thought the exact same at beginning of the season but Walker, KDB and Gundo are finished as reliable top game starters. Ederson looks checked out. That's 4 replacements off the bat. Our wingers are not good enough as of this moment. Need 1 high level productive forward and then you have the bernardo situation and kovacic also seeing other side of 30 so there's another midfielder needed. We also have the injury prone CBs. I think this will all be fully done by the start of 2026/2027 season though. I fully expect between Jan and next summer there will be 6 new faces and by 2026 summer there will be up to 10

I think Raphinha and Olise are both a cut above Eze. Wharton only has 4 months of PL football to show for, in a Palace side on a massive purple patch. Don’t think he’s good enough yet.

If we’re signing 5+ players over the next two transfer windows it’s gonna be extremely pricy, and English players are massively overpriced. I’d love to sign Livramento tbf, but believe there are far better options than Eze, Wharton and Branthwaite. If those 3 weren’t English, I don’t believe for a second we’d be interested. My point still stands, apart from maybe Branthwaite, I could never see PSG, Barca, Real or Bayern spending 60m+ on those players
I agree mate. Although Eze is quite good.

Some players we should be looking at:

Wingers: Barcola, Kvaratshkelia, Lookman

Center mid: Wirtz, Brandt, Reijnders

Defensive mid: Bruno Guimaraes/other 8 that can also play defensive mid

Center back/left back that plays CB in posession: Schlotterback, Bastoni, Inacio

A few weeks ago this would have been scoffed at, but not now and rightly so. The warning signs at the start of this run from some players were there, but understandably they were given the benefit of the doubt. What needs to be done to rebuild may seem to be a bit ruthless but it's becoming clearer now that it's essential. The projection of 10 new faces could well be correct, or at least not far off.

This squad requires a massive rebuild. May not happen. It is what it is...

really like the schlotterbeck shout, zubimendi and baena are interesting too, those would be a good start. upfront i like kvaradona, wirtz, musiala, all ballers but we'd be lucky to get one of them for many different reasons

Can someone tell me realistically who we are signing in January. I can tell you who we are not. Bruno G., Ederson (Atalanta), Zubimendi, Simons, Baena, Wirtz, Musiala, Reijnders, Barella, Cambiaso, Bastoni, Kvaraskhelia, Guler, Scalvini, Branthwaite, A. Robinson, Guehi, Diomande, Gyokores or anyone else of such quality that we are in desperate need of. The fact that a large chunk of the players that need replacing were once indisputably among the very best in the world at their positions means we're fucked. KDB, Walker, Bernardo, Ederson, Gundo, Stones are all past it for a variety of reasons. Who lost their legs, who can't stay fit, who's head is gone. We're looking at the backbone of one of the greatest teams ever, period. Add in Mahrez who has not been adequately replaced and the outlook is grim. Can we rebuild it. Yes. Will we? Who knows. I have to admire the clappers who think it's no big deal and it's a certainty we'll get back to the levels of the past 7 years. 2 things are certain. We're not going anywhere with the squad as is even with Rodri returning and replacing the world class players who have stayed around too long is a monumental task with the smallest margin for error. Anyone who thinks otherwise is doing a disservice to the great team we have celebrated during Pep's tenure. I can tell ya Nunes, Rico Lewis, Doku, etc. aren't stepping into those shoes anytime soon.

We're most likely not getting any of those.

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild? - Yes (see below)

2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025? Gundo, KDB, Walker, Stones, Grealish, Ake, Rico Lewis at the very least...McAtee possibly from the fringe players.

3 - Which players should be offered new contracts? - None at the moment accept Rodri at present unless there is a real need

3b - What players should we be targetting? - Wirtz should be number 1 target - A right back and a left back plus a DM

-
4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild, i.e. Txiki or Hugo Viana - Hs to be Viana - Txixi wont be here.

5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission? -the club will know this already so we will have to wait and see. Publically it will not look any different till the decision drops

6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild? - seen a figure of 400m

7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club - stick by the manager and the players.....nothing more
Pep should be in charge..even after Pep leaves the club and the hierachy have an engrained way of playing from the under 6's to the first team - that aint changing soon - its the style the club want so we will look for a manger who also wants to play in a similar fashion

7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club? UNSURE, STOP BEING MORE LIKE THAT LOT IN STRETFORD

I don't think the money is there to buy as money as some would suggest over the next year.

Realistically, I can see us at best signing 6 players, which is already alot to do in a year.

1 - I think he wants to be part of the rebuild. And I don't buy the bullshit that he is limited and don't understand how to be a part of a rebuild. So yes.

2 - Looking at the contract situation, it makes sense to part with Gundogan and De Bruyne. Many of the others will most likely cling on to their contracts with a highly successful club. Meaning Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ederson and B. Silva would stay another season and most likely with less workload, with the possibility of one year extensions if it works out. If it is possible to sell given the wage demands, more players could go in 2025.

3 - I don't know if it is possible to convince key players to stay as long as PL charges are not out of the way. If they are out of the way, it is pretty obvious we want to keep Haaland, Foden, Dias, Akanji and of course Rodri replacing De Bruyne as the wage leader together with Haaland.

3b - 2-3 players with pace (wingbacks, midfield, central defence) along with excellent technical ability. And 1-2 of those players should have superb vision of the game as well. As core replacements. More players coming in with prospects to establish themselves as core players would help. Especially if academy players don't prove themselves. Important that new signings would be in the 21-24 year bracket, unless a future prospect.

4 - Hugo Viana. But the board should be careful about chasing marquee signings. United got it wrong by doing that and I can se us also falling into that trap (underpreforming players on expensive 5 year contracts - like Grealish now).

5 - We have a war chest built up for the rebuild. Living within the fair financial framwork rules promote the commercial brand as well as the general perception of what the reasons behind the success was.

6 - It depends on the time frame. 6 players for 60-80 millions + 2 more for 20-30 millions would be preferred in my opinion for the next 2-3 years. Not falling into the marquee signing trap. Keep the squad size at 25 more or less trusted players at all times. Because of all the new competitions, more squad rotation no matter the results.

7 - We can't help that much. But I have sense that Guardiola and the leadership is onboard when it comes to a rebuild. So trust that they are not set up to be a one trick phony would probably help.

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild? YES
2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025? EDERSON, WALKER, LEWIS, GÜNDOĞAN, NUNES, MCATEE, PHILLIPS, KOVAČIĆ, BSILVA (STONES, AKANJI, DE BRUYNE IN 2026)
3 - Which players should be offered new contracts? DIAS, RODRI, HAALAND, DE BRUYNE 1YR
3b - What players should we be targetting? DIOGO COSTA, LIVRAMENTO, BASTONE, KIMMICH, ZUBIMENDI, MUSIALA, KILIKSOY
4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild? VIANA WITH PEP HAVING MORE INPUT
5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission? NO, START IN JANUARY
6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild? MUST HAVE OVER £400M TO SPEND MUSTN’T WE?
7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club? STAYING POSITIVE AND BEHIND PEP AND THE TEAM.
