The 9pm train

To play devils advocate, why is it that football supporters, uniquely among sports fans, have this bizarre sense of entitlement about being "cared for" ?

We're customers, nothing more nothing less. It's simple supply and demand. The FA know they can shift all the tickets whatever time the game kicks off. A very small percentage of fans travel by train. What's the big deal ?
People are reacting as if the only way to get to and from London is by train. There are numerous options, with plenty of time to get it all organised, to get to Wembley hassle free, easy as fuck. Yet people just want to moan and stop themselves enjoying something.
no they don't though

when going to London the train is the cheapest and most efficient form of transport especially if there is less than three of you going
just over two hours from Piccadily to Euston, bars at either end, and a comfy seat with a table and opportunities, often, to drink on the way there
so no wonder people are rightly pissed off that this option has been denied them

for the semi i had to drive there and the wife drove back, which was good of her but meant only one of us could have a drink, plus it took four hours there and over four hours back
give me a two hour train journey any time

as for coaches, you can stick them where the sun don't shine

Anyone know if an open return valid for London-Liverpool, would still be valid for getting a train from London to Manchester? (it's a virgin trains ticket btw)

Just because there's not much chance of getting on the last Liverpool train after the game so would hopefully be able to get on the last Manchester one and then onto Liverpool.

Liverpool to London via Manchester is a permitted route mate, so you'd be fine.

Assuming you haven't got an advanced ticket on a specific train of course.

Yeah nice one. It's an open return valid till the 14th of something, so will be fine, thanks.

The most "easy as fuck" way to travel over land, especially Wembley, is the rattler. Just over 2 hours from Manchester to Euston plus 25 minutes from Euston to Wembley shits all over driving or getting a coach, especially if it takes nearly 2 hours for that coach to get off Wembley's coach park, 3 hours to get out of London, and nearly 7 hours to get home as happened with us last Sunday. That's why we booked train tickets this time round with the Megabus as a contingency if we miss the last train. A contingency that wouldn't be needed if the FA had brought the kick-off time forward by an hour or so.
