The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

It's now well over 18 months since JJ Cale and no one has been able to lay a glove on him, strange but good juju indeed.

@Coatigan are we getting clues this week?

Seeing how you asked and some of us seem to missed them the last couple of weeks, here are some free clues for a laugh. To kill some time while people go through their selections in their own time.

A strong contender for my album of the year alongside Heavy Jelly. I would have considered putting it forward next round, but, we have now ticked off 2024 form our missing years list.

I'm quite chuffed with this clue btw, which when you get it will hopefully make sense and/or make one or two chuckle.

I'd say Mama Terra - Summoned but that's not a chucklesome answer so I'll go with...

Pissed Jeans - Half Divorced

Hamish Hawk - A Firmer Hand

Anyway, really good album. And the song A Queationable Hit always makes me think of this thread. Particularly the lyrics below

'The chorus-chords as they are, are shit
He needs the right hook.
Who cares if its all cheap counterfeit
He needs the right look.

Less coastal,
More classic
Ecclesiastical,
Perhaps a classic
No crisis
No contract
The record is seminal
I love the first track

Fix that hiss,
Scratch that pass..
A touch more Hi-hat'

Well done.

See.. cause he's a Scottish guy, outside his house.. i.e not quite home (or in dialect, hame).

He's Hame.. ish.

See, hilarious right!

Was never getting that despite having heard the album. Never liked the clues thing anyway.

Not been a bad year for albums so far, apart from the obvious over hyped nonsense. Might just be I'm paying more attention than recent years. The only thing that bombed in our house was Fontaines DC and I've never been that enamoured anyway.

Currently got the latest Soccer Mommy album on and it's very simple but really quite moving.

Interesting you say that about F.DC. Had that discussion recently with a mate who liked their previous. He thought it bombed too. I thought it was ok-ish, could have done with making its mind up a bit more.

Yeah I feel I have enough for a solid top 10 this year. And I'm not even sure it would include the new Idles album, that's how fierce the competition is. Not an attention thing, think it has genuinely been a better year than the recent few.
