The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I'm open to suggestions, but I have listened to J.J. Cale out of principal, and did like it.

I know many of the other albums prior (The Cars, Bruce, Rush of course, Isbell, DBTs, Midnight Oil, War on Drugs, Noel, and others), but I'm willing to give a few more a spin as I have my earbuds in as today's matches are playing.
American Man by The Yawpers (I think that this was before your time).

Will try that again, 2 tracks off of @BlueHammer85's list didn't yet grab me.

I have picked up on a middle of the road one from the page 1 list I really really like from that same BH playlist, and after listening to most of it (playing now), I feel it was dealt with a bit harshly after reading the reviews back on page ... (lol, not gonna do it!), but now just debating if it can bump off one of my five.

Good thing my Saturday still has hours left. Does falling back 1 hour also count tonight? ;-)

Given to the Wild from The Maccabees easily was harshly dealt with IMO too, but I wasn't around to see to that one. Given I was already familiar with that album, it can't be in my top 5 finds, but it would be otherwise.

I don't remember the scoring or having any issue with the scoring. But I do think to this day it was the most grossly misunderstood album on this thread.

Can't go wrong with the Biffy album here either, particularly as you keep liking their songs on the playlist thread.

Speaking of, didn't want to distract from the album at hand last week, so didn't say much. But for those that asked about the Blackened Sky gig, it was amazing.

Quite a difficult album to play out live imo, and it depended on the crowd knowing it and joining in. And they really did, which was great. Like, every word, note and transition. It was a really good and well behaved crowd too, not that courtesy is what you look for at gigs, but also best when there's no bellends. Don't think there was a **** under 40 there either. The only bit that got on my tits a bit was some guy in the pisser next to me midway remarked, in probably a Leamington Spa accent 'is it me or do they tend to change time signatures in the same song'. I thought ffs mate, have you never fucking heard a song of theirs, did you just come to one of the most sought after gigs in Glasgow that some long term fans couldn't get anywhere near getting a ticket to. But he seemed a nice guy and didn't piss on my shoes so I let him off.

The second half of the gig was the same set as the London equivalent night. Bubbles is such a good song. And I always looked down on Stingin Belle, as a bit of a gimmick song just so they could say they had a song with bagpipes in it, but it was an excellent finish, and felt the drums almost push me back with their power.

Yeah, I was listening to that one too, and I think I now need a top 10 list. ;-)

My time here was just after American Man and my comments echo yours from a few years ago in reading up.

Glad you enjoyed the show! Local Natives in concert for me in just an upcoming fortnight.

Ah enjoy. Hope they play a good chunk of Hummingbird, which is imo their best album.

I'm going to leave it going till Tuesday as we currently only have a 6 song playlist with quite a few regulars yet to decide. Maybe the weekend was too soon.

@BlueHammer85 @FogBlueInSanFran do you guys fancy taking part? Totally fine if you don't or are pushed for time, just checking you don't miss it for being on page 3, given your usual involvement. A couple others that dip in and out of the thread too, but not always part of the playlist weeks. Open to anyone of course.
