It is an 8 out of 10 score for me . It’s a superb album but it’s behind probably 5 other charlatans album for me . Such as some friendly , up to our hips and between the 10th and 11th .
Liked oasis and the stone roses in patches around this time and for my musical tastes the charlatans outlasted both by a long way in quality and longevity.

I will check that album out too.Glad you enjoyed it. If there's time in the crowded listening space, I can recommend the album that came after this - Us and Us Only. There are times on that that the Dylan influence is even more apparent but they mix it up to good effect. Like I said in my review, it's a toss-up for which of these albums is the better.

It's really not.That's like saying Pep's influence on Steve Clarke is obvious, but his football is not like Pep's.
Liam's phrasing at times is Lennonesque but he sings in a Manc accent so they sound very different.

A part of Get it on? Lol it's the whole basis of Cigarettes & AlcoholThere is a part of "Get On It" that sounds a bit like Oasis but that's being picky.
It's really not.

It was more a comment/comparison of quality.
'Yes yes, we get it, you don't like Oasis coat!'

First listen.
It's a wall of weirdly produced noise with what sounds like a poor oasis tribute act singing over the top. I googled them, turns out they are from Birmingham.
11 songs all sounding the same apart from the rubbish end one and one in the middle that was a bit slower. I'll delve into that more when I listen again.
Not that I want to listen again really as it's quite dire. But 3 listens is what I give all of these albums and three listens it shall get. God help my ears.

Back then so much energy to them and somethign that little bit different from what was out there. This choice has made me go back and revisit and does make me wonder why I dont spend more time with them.
I think for the overall variety and muscianship I think the Northwich boys are way ahead of the Burnage boys

The Charlatans are a more swampy southern (USA) roots rock band than Oasis to me. I don't know what the official genre is called. The guitar tone and the way it's played plus the organ sounds make it quite distinct in this era I think - like I said in my review they are a proper grown up band. I can't think of any Oasis song that grooves like Area 51 - actually the Charlatans do swing way more than Oasis.
Burgess' vocals have some of the same nasal inflections and elongated syllables as Liam G but the Charlatans predate Oasis so Burgess came first.
