The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

I had a listen tonight whilst working and I love it.

I have no idea why, but 10cc just don't get the credit they deserve - they are one of those truly artistic bands with an ability to write incredibly melodic songs in a variety of styles. For some reason, when people talk about the great Manchester bands, they are rarely mentioned but they are undoubtedly one of the finest bands out of this city.

Anyway, onto the album - I agree @Saddleworth2, it's a work of genius. What a debut album this is, you really can hear how they move into gear on their later work as it's full of the trademark 10cc sound. The riff on Sand In My Face is superb, the silliness of Donna, the joyfulness of The Dean & I (I love this song), the rockiness of Headline Hunter, the craziness of Speed Kills. Of course, Rubber Bullets is the stand out track (or is it The Dean & I?) on this album and it showcases their entire style - great lyrics, catchy, wonderful melody and just bloody clever songwriting and musicianship. How do you write a song about a prison riot that everyone loves?

Every song has something unique and different in it. There's not many bands able to write songs like 10cc, I just wish more people - especially from Manchester - would give these absolute titans of music the respect they deserve.

It's a 10/10 from me.
It gives me a great deal of pleasure that your first listen generated that review. For me that is what this thread is about. Finding gems that you hadn’t heard before. So glad you liked it.

Used to like them when at high school. Interesting pick to find out if time has been good to this record.
Past week i have been listening to the less famous Stones lps in It's Only Rock "N" Roll and Tattoo You and enjoying both.
Hopefully i will do the same with 10cc in the coming weeks.

A cracking debut from a great band. Mancunian legends ! A sign of a top class artist is that the depth of quality of their albums and thr original quartet released three or four belters.
