The Album Review Club - Week #148 - (page 1953) - Sheer Heart Attack - Queen

I did, bit of a foot shooter moment.

Hmm, am I barking up the wrong tree or are you just brazening it out? In fairness, I had Knaresborough nailed on for The Hu until I realised he wasn't actually a nominator this time round!

First pass has left me with loads that seem clearly not right, I think people have gone quite atypical with their picks this time round.

Yeah @BimboBob not being a part of it really threw me too, I had a couple down for him.

I found it hard, I tried to clear all the country stuff whic was the bulk of it, and really could be anyone for anything of that group. Tried some of the more consistent tastes, and the rest was kind of what seemed to fit elsewhere.

I also found myself going round in circles a bit and swapping too mich,,so decided just to go with what was on the page come what may.

I thought I remembered you saying you liked her the last round, but could have confused with someone else.

I knew if I went first, everyone would moan or mock. But someone had to get the ball rolling.
Not mocking… just wounded!! :)

And boldly you have , I have no clue whatsoever outside some of those who have told of admiration for a few of the artists on the list in past threads but this is little comfort I think this time around.

I have 10 artists against the same names you chose before you got the ball rolling which if Rob sticks to his timeline the rest of us have less than 24 hours to finalise.

Sorry mate, very hard to pick a decent tune from a hospital bed (which I was at the time). Drugs probably.

You're right, relative to the albums nominated there was a definite swing to country influenced stuff in this list albeit the 'alt' country world. Doesn't bother me personally as I quite like a fair amount of that stuff but it is a bit of a surprise and one of the reasons I'm struggling to wedge some of the tracks into a nominee.

And whatever else, it's definitely not as odd as some of the BM Cup stuff.

First off a thank you to this thread for actually making me listen to some music. Of late I have either been listening to audio books or simple radio. It made me realise that I have been somewhat stuck in the past and havent really listened to much "new" over the past 10 years or so.

So after a couple of plays through I found that I had only heard of or listened to stuff from a thrid of the playlist. So alot of new stuff to get my head around, TRex, Aimee Mann,, Tasmin Archer, Black Sabbath (like a bit of harmonica), Kiki Dee, Bob Marley, Noel, Bjork, were all good and enjoyed and would happily listen to again (some more than others).

James McMurty I heard a bit of John Mellencamp in one and a touch of "Convoy" in another. Whilst I like Mellencamp Im not generally a fan of "Country" and so these along with the likes of Hansome Family, InTua Nua, The Be Good Tanyas would not be ones I would go for again or look to explore their catalogues.

King Crimson was a bit "aren't we clever" although it wasnt what I had expected. Bit proggy for me and probably wouldnt go out of my way to listen again...pretty much like with Family of the Year.

Avishai Cohen & Zappa were enjoyable and may listen again. the same with Cactus, Woods (a little Scritti Politti sounding to me) & Strange Powers, The Walkmen, Welshly Arms (abit of RagnBone feel) & Steve Forbert.

The only one that i really wasnt impressed with was latin Quarter which Im afraid I would skip in future.

My high points of the playlist were:
The Hu, never heard before and will def be looking up other stuff.
Latto, which loved and cant beat that Tom Tom Club sample
Joe Walsh...abit of a Led Zep vibe
Off with Their Heads...excellent and a real bity of energy
