The Album Review Club - Week #148 - (page 1953) - Sheer Heart Attack - Queen

Can I just say I have never been so insulted as being associated with any song by Kiki fucking Dee!
Especially that one.

It's a fantastic song to be associated with, stop moaning! Also did you know Kiki Dee was one of the backing singers on Everlasting Love by Love Affair?

I also note you haven't complained about being tagged for Bedtime for Bonzo have you? :-)

Ha ha ha ha sir this is a McDonalds!! :)

I think you have the wrong fellow!
Not based on past performances and I think you are far more than a one trick pony when it comes to matching songs to names.

Encyclopedic as one described your musical cognition only begins the journey.

My eldest son combined with my nephew might give you an occasional run up the hill so to speak.

In the past you certainly have me figured out and I think you might triumph again albeit I have gone rogue in this comp in an effort to make it a tad more difficult , however I soon realised this comp for me at least is much more involuted than before and more effort was made by all I think in this regard and it makes for good listening and good adventure.

Hook,line and sinker…
That song is not fantastic it’s syrupy and maudlin sop for Barbara Cartland readers.

Wrong, wrong, wrong...I'm more of a Catherine Cookson man myself.

As for the other one, if I've been done over like a kipper then fair play.

I think you’re more the KD and Elton John collaboration fan ;)
Just my two penneth on comments about your ‘eclectic’ tastes…. Keep them coming, the more diversity the better!!

Now the guessing is over, and it didn't look like many would guess either of my choices, my brief comments:

SongRatingComment
1. The HU - Yuve Yuve YuokUnoriginal aside from the language. Bit of a novelty.
10. Aimee Mann - I Should've KnownVery goodLike this. Never heard it before or listened to Aimee Mann; time to investigate further. Poppy, rock.
11. Latin Quarter - America For BeginnersGoodMoody little number. Chorus is a touch Bowiesque.
12. Welshly Arms - LegendaryokBig sound but leaves me a bit cold for some reason.
13. The Walkmen - The RatnopeBad U2.
14. Off With Their Heads - Clear The AirokVery derivative, not very memorable rock.
15. Strange Powers - The Magnetic FieldsGoodCatchy little pop toon.
16. James McMurtry - Just us KidsVery goodLou says "Hey, Man".
17. Latto - Big EnergyokBit syrupy to be my kind of rap but the Tom Tom club sample elevates it.
18. Black Sabbath - The Wizard. GreatI love Sabbath. Greatest Heavy Metal band ever although this is almost Blues Rock. Bill Ward underrated as a drummer. Let the dandruff fly.
19. Kiki Dee - AmoureuseVery goodHadn't heard this in eons. Takes me back. Saw KD in concert in late 70's.
2. T.Rex - Life’s A GasGoodGot a real soft spot for this track as it is the B-side of Jeepster, the first single I ever owned. T.Rex were my first musical love and very much the root of my musical tastes.
20. Bob Marley - No Woman, No Cry (live)ClassicThe best song by Reggae's greatest artist. This live version is so much better than the studio version. Truly a thing of beauty, it's enough to makes this white boy wanna cry. One of my personal top 100 songs. Chosen for this playlist whilst I was on holiday in the Caribbean, although not Jamacia but you gotta have a Bob playlist when you go to that part of the world, and I did.
21. Noel Gallagher - Live Forever (live acoustic)GoodNot a match for Oasis original but a great song.
22. Cactus - Parchman FarmGoodClassic rock.
23. Family of the Year - The StairsokJangly pop.
24. King Crimson - Three Of A Perfect PairokFiddly rock.
25. James McMurty - Ft. Walton Wake-up CallVery goodCharlie Daniels says "Howdy".
26. Bjork - Big Time Sensualitynope
27. In Tua Nua - Don't Fear Me NowGoodBit like a Celtic Pretenders song.
28. The Handsome Family - Weightless AgainGoodBeginning is great and reminds of something that I can't place.
29. Frank Zappa - Peaches En RegaliaClassicBit like a soundtrack excerpt. Very memorable piece of music.

Songs in bold are ones that I have in my collection, so it was good to hear plenty of music I was not overly familiar with.

If I had picked T.Rex or Sabbath songs, it wouldn't have been those two. Wouldn't choose Sabs for a summer playlist. T.Rex summer choice would be "Hot Love" or maybe "Get it On".
