The Album Review Club - Week #195 (page 1310) - A New World Record - ELO

I Was actually intrigued enough by your Maggie Rodgers pick, to explore her stuff more. Which is what led me to the Kississippi comparison, which I think is worth checking out, if you are into that Chvrches meets Swift type of thing.

Speaking of your 1000 miles song, here is a chance to see it in a slightly different light. More 'fun' than good, but a bit of fun is always good.

Finally I do suggest you give the little set of circa 5 Viagra Boys songs I mentioned earlier a spin in a onner. As someone who likes 'music to move to', I challenge you to stay still with a couple of those.

2024 needs more Korn!

This was my top 10 though I should preface this by pointing out I hate this part of the thread and by implication you all too, especially the big fat liars . Happy New Year folks.

1. Viagra Boys
2. Pigs Pigs Pigs
3. Fantastic Negrito
4. Drive By Truckers
5. Jason Isbell
6. The National
7. Ian Hunter et al
8. Maggie Rogers
9. Water underground
10. Rival Sons

Right! Back to the music

Apologise for late review but pleased to see there was a break so I’ve not missed any other album nominations.

The Groundhogs - Split

Enjoyable nostalgic 60/70’s blues feel , a dash of cream, deep purple and even Hendrix at times

Split 1-4 kind of all merge into one and whilst they’re all strong tracks they sometimes do ponder - albeit there’s some cracking intersections with plenty of riffs and solos.

After that I enjoyed I believe their most well known track ‘Cherry Red’
Psychedelic ‘Junkman’ was good until it turned too psychedelic for me.

6/10

Welcome back.

Keep an eye out for this week’s album, it might be something you like :j

A bit of a name drop as met Mr George Ivan Morrison today. Grumpy fucker as usual.
Afraid I bottled it and didn't tell him that the gents of the blue moon album review club didn't rate Astral Weeks all that highly!
I don't blame you as the first thing you should have noted was that the Derry jury merely gave it a 5! :-)

While you were away, someone pre-emptively predicted this as your 2023 song of the year.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - "Easy Now"

No one took it either, so it still can be yours to claim or deny. ;-)

Not a bad shout!

Erm song of 2023 is tough seen as I only listen to a random album on here from all you FOCs.

However I’ll give it to Kenya Grace - Strangers. Good runner tune.

Hope you all enjoyed the Christmas playlist. Now it's time start the musical caravan rolling once more and get on with the serious (but enjoyable) business of reviewing the next album. We still have four albums to review before round #7 finishes, so let's get to it.

As he's already noted, @LGWIO is busy today and so for his debut album selection, he's asked me to do the honours.

Clue coming up in the next post.
