Looking quickly through it, Kinnaris Quintet, and Salthouse are the ones that jump out that I'd like to go see. Peat and Diesel are on as well, Breabach always worth seeing but seen before a few times. A few regulars and a couple new to me that I will check out, and a bit of indie thrown in as well with the Howl and Hum and Villagers.

Ha I work for a church and I have had lots of post Christmas cleaning up and packing away decorations etc so my normal work routines are out of whack. I found myself overly excited about a palette of rock salt that was arriving today so in my head it's rock salt day and not Wednesday. Then there was a Joe Rogan podcast I wanted to listen to today with a guest that blew up my YouTube feed in December and is now a sudden celebrity. I realise my life may appear sad but I find it much easier to be excited by minor small things - cant have moon landings every day.

I have had one complete listen now. I don't think the subsequent 2 listens will change my mind much but I want to give respect to the nomination so will do the requisite 3 listens. Plus Coatigan seems pretty hard so I'm trying hard to find something positive I can say about it.

Never seen Breabach and they're playing with the SNJO so reckon that would have been good to see. Didn't notice that Peat and Diesel were on!

I assume not strict Presbyterian if you've got lots of decorations to put away :-)

Though I don't agree with your view of the album, your last sentence is worth a like on it's own.

I've spent hours cleaning up pine needles and trying to figure out where I can dump a christmas tree in Salford today so I wish I was strict Presbyterian.

I've yet to give an opinion on the album :) I don't really have the genre knowledge to give an intelligent review which I guess doesn't make much of a change. I will waffle for a bit and give it a 5 tomorrow

Give it a 3 but make it fun!

Doesn't have to be positive, doesn't have to be kind, just relevant.

Woke up with the end bit of the burrain ringing in my head this morning. AaaAaaAa.

I live in the Salford borough (Walkden) and we always dump stuff at the recycling centre near J4 of the M61, which I think is technically just over the border into Bolton,

No problems with the Christmas tree though - synthetic all the way!

It's worth more than a three for sure. It won't make my review but The Burrian really reminded me of War of the Worlds - there's a couple of sounds including the AaaAaaAa's where I imagine War of the Worlds could have sounded like if Jeff Wayne had been inspired by something other than disco

Been watching a variety of Lau's live performances from over the years. There's definitely an air of "we are artistes" about some of their earlier performances. As they get older and grow into their folk beards etc that air looks slightly less incongruous and therefore less noticeable. Mind you they're hardly the first artist to arguably to be a little bit po face about what they are doing.

While videos of live performances and performances live are not always the same thing, I mostly agree. I think it maybe feels a bit more fun in person, but it is there.

Think it is hard to deny their passion though, and their musicianship. And they are biggies for me.

Totally agree it's not the same as being in the room at all and punters like me always want their cake and to eat it... "be passionate about what you do but don't take it or yourself too seriously; leave everything out there in terms of performance but don't go over the top with the emotionally spent look please" etc etc

And don't dress up too much. Just get out there on the stage in your lumberjack shirts and jeans and play your instruments.

Totally agree. I was down in Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal last weekend and there was plenty of "trad" about in the bars down there. Its always wonderful to experience in the flesh, getting to see the musicianship and passion close up.
That said, such performances are perhaps a little contrived for "the tourist", whereas this selection, which is totally new to me, is so much more personal and about them doing what they love.
Quite enjoyed the first listen to this doing some cooking earlier today, but not sure how it will fare listening as I normally do on my commutes.
 
This is a bit of a struggle for me - I find the fiddle a very difficult instrument to listen to so it’s a tricky one. I shall persevere.

If you have windows to look out of, horizontigo is great for a commute, qs is winter moon. If you floors to tap your feet on, most of the album is good for a commute.
