The battle for 3rd place

if City and Arsenal finish on level points, with the same goals scored and the same GD, do they have to have a playoff??

Now premier league rule states that, "If at the end of the Season, either the League Champions or the Clubs to be relegated or the question of qualification for other competitions cannot be determined because 2 or more Clubs are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored, the Clubs concerned shall play off one or more deciding League Matches on neutral grounds, the format, timing and venue of which shall be determined by the Board."

(e.g Watford 4-2 City, Arsenal 3-0 Everton)

just seen above the same can be said for City and Liverpool for 3rd place. Ridiculously similar records.

Can it be a 3 way tie if so what happens then ?
There's no combination of results that leaves all 3 teams on the same number of points, as Liverpool can't get 2 points from their game and Arsenal can't get more than 3. Pretty sure it would be a mini league of head to head or a 3 team round robin playoff.

Can you imagine? Sky and the FA licking their lips with glee as they make Liverpool and City play a 6-legged affair in Wembley, New York, LA, Beijing, Johannesburg and Dubai.

i certainly can imagine, Sky would absolutely toilet themselves if there was a brucey bonus playoff game, especially if it was for a champs league berth. like Super Sunday on speed.

Who changed this to 3rd, stupid imho it's still battle for top 4, if we lose by 1 and Arsenal win by 4 then they top us in the table.

Please change this back to avoid tempting fate

It's a battle for 3rd to 5th in effect but we're battling for 3rd really (and hoping not to finish 5th).

Watford just announced their manager is leaving, they might start playing now just in time for us, cu***

It's not something most would do but I'm a complete pessimist about things like this. It happened in 98 when if we beat Stoke the only way we could go down was if Port Vale and Portsmouth both won away. So, we win 5-2 and the others against the odds also won. I won nearly £500 that day but I was so pissed off. This Sunday you can get 100/1 with Sky for us not to finish top 4, I'm having £20 on hoping I'm not winning, it would be small compensation if it happened. Cue the barrage of abuse!!

you can't help being a negative so and so, but you'll be a slightly richer one if you're right :)

Lol he's only been there for a year and they haven't taken a single point out of their last 5 games
Can't imagine they've got much of an emotional attachment to him
