What, in your opinion, is the most fantastic piece of music ever written ? I mean, song, passage, movement, overture, it can be anything by anybody.

Like most people I have lots that I could nominate but at the end of the day, the music I want played at my funeral is by the English composer Elgar, its a movement from his Enigma Variations called.........Nimrod.

Just by way of explanation the enigma variations was an extended peice with movements, each movement was written to describe the character of one of his friends, Nimrod (the name of a biblical hunter) was written to describe the character of A Jeager one of Elgars closest freinds.
The reason it called Enigma is because according to Elgar the whole theme is based upon a well known piece of music but he never said what it was, so its an enigma......some musicologists have cited various works but it remains a riddle.

Anyway, please have a listen (even if you dont like classical), preferably with headphones and see what you think of it.

This.

Only because the uplift in the music can be so brilliant when you feel your own spirits rise in the same way, and being a bit manic is OK. As Mozart would have understood.

That is the power of music.

that Mozart one, can't stand it. Only because often when I'm put on hold i get a 30 second section of that song over and over again. Can't remember what company, I think it's HSBC.
For me probably this one

On a classical note I try to go to the opera once a year and this year In Basel it was Biset. This live moved me to tears even without the celebrity singers.

It was Faust last year which was a bit heavy if I'm honest!
