The Big Match Revisited (ITV)

Some of the pitches.....pretty sure they were to blame for "hoofball" being the english game. And yet the FA were obviously quite happy to do sweet FA (?)

It's nice watching typical city again.

Everytime were on I expect it's a loss and any other result is a bonus.
Only tuned in by accident but by gum, nice to see Tueart getting a brace. If I remember, this was a key win to help get the Bond renaissance going. Liked the laid back commentary
In fact, very nice to see the City game and West Ham v Bolton (Kiddo scored) with commentary that was straightforward and not linked to money making

City getting spanked 4-1 off Brighton earlier from 1979 - Big Joe keeping the score from being really embarrassing. Brighton fans singing you're worse than crystal palace, ha.

Flicked over before. Ball floated into the box, Gordon McQueen runs into the back of a Spurs defender, Penalty to the Rags....

YCMIU, turned off!

Just watching the latest episode from November 1980 and it's as if things changed almost overnight from the '70's.

Many of the pitches looked great and the pace of the games, along with the quality of the footie wasn't too far short of today's.

Got me thinking as to who from the 80's would possibly make it, if they played today.

A few I came up with;

Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson - both incredible centre halves, who could bring that ball out of defence. Pep would have worked wonders with those two.

Garth Crooks - forget his histrionics with his BBC Team of the Week, this guy could play.

Glenn Hoddle - no more needs saying really.

Steve Williams - remember him in the middle of the park for Southampton? Always thought he had tremendous energy and added a few goals as well.

Alan Devonsire

Any more to add?

Most of the great Liverpool teams in the 80s could thrive today you would think. Gary Linkeker too?

Agree with all of these except Hoddle. Hoddle was talented but one of the laziest players I have seen (made Pogba look like a workhorse). Hoddle would never have got into a Pep team. Hansen and Lawrenson were superb technically, years ahead of their times for centre halves. Devonshire would also have done well in a Pep team.

They recently had on the 1979/80 season on. Each time City were on they generally lost.
A interesting game they showed recently was Brighton away in one of John Bonds 1st games. 2-1 win with Tueart getting both, Steve Daley sent off by a right twat of a ref and City surviving an onslaught off Brighton at the end.
Gerard Sindstadt RIP. “A touch of the real Rodney’s”

RIP Gerald Sinsdadt, the voice of the Law backheel and so many memorable City games of the 70s and 80s

Gerald Sinstadt: Former BBC and ITV commentator dies aged 91

RIP.

Good memories. I never warmed to Davies and Motson, but Sinstadt and Wolstenholme were like old friends on Saturday nights. Coleman, I always thought, was a bit of a buffoon. Remarkable.

Different times.

I have a collection of DVDs of City games from the period and Sinsdadt seems to be on nearly all of them. Also presented the “Kick Off” preview show on Friday evenings with his young assistant Welsby

Just noticed it is on now itv4.

Hull keeper playing without gloves in 1976. Old style kits numbered 1 to 11 and no shirt sponsors.

Did Brian Moore ever commentate on a game outside London ?
