The biggest top buzz in history?

1923 - Edwin Hubble the pipe smoking quintessential English gent with his tweed jacket, well he was American but from what i read of people who worked with or knew him he should have been English and kept in a shed with tools by all accounts, i digress...

In 1923 he conclusively proved the Andromeda galaxy was indeed a separate galaxy and very very far away, not just a nebulae/gas cloud at the far end of ours. Until then our galaxy was the entire universe as far as we knew, this man comes out and say's we are one of what he now knew to be beyond count. Imagine being told that back then, flight was in it's infancy and religion had a stronger hold then on those with less education than the lucky few. I can imagine large sections of society finding such an idea very scary, the fact we are so very very small.

What would be the equivalent now? being told there is advanced life detected? i mean most people i know who have a grasp of cosmology are forced to the same conclusion i am, namely there probably is!

Great shout that, mate.

When Albert Hoffman synthizezed LSD and took some before a bike ride home. It has definitely got to be up there.

The 4th November 1922 Howard Carter finding the tomb of King Tut ankh amen. Then even more of a buzz on the 26th November he entered the tomb to find it untouched for 3000 years, and ladened with archaeological treasures. Just imagine dedicating your life to something with very little reward day in day out for 22 years, then finding the greatest treasures ever unearthed. Wow.....
