Yellow Budgie. shit bike, everyone seemed to have one.
Grifter - because the gears was on the handle grip so you could pretend to rev it like a motorbike, i knackered my bike up doing that.
Racing bike. ran out on the street to find that every other kid on the estate had got the new bike that was out that year, the Bmx, My mum told me to get one, but oh no i said everyone was getting a racing bike, i looked a knob.

Raleigh Eighteen - had a place in my heart until it was stolen and I made a racer from odd parts :-) happy days!!!

I remember my older brother having a grifter,it was silver with fucking massive chunky tyres.I ended up with a blue and white Raleigh burner which I swapped for a falcon pro just so I could be in a gang called the falcon pro flyers.

Rig ups were the only way to go.
A racer frame and back wheel, chopper forks and front wheel with cow horn handlebars. Lucky if you had a seat.
Brakes? Fuck that!
Gears? What were they?
Even now, when I see discarded mountain bikes at the side of the road, the kid in me wants to strip them and fix em.

Raleigh Boxer and a Raleigh Grifter (which some twat nicked) and then my first proper BMX was a Silverfox and I loved it. I'm still into biking and I've just bought myself this http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/xtc.alliance/4893/39098/ and its the dogs bollox, and not just the colour. 41 years old and I'm still like a kid when I'm on it

-- Thu Jun 27, 2013 8:51 pm --

Not forgetting the engine, well the engine noise of the coke can rammed between the back wheel and the frame!

Home made "Tracker bike" in red, straight forks, heavy duty spring (suspension) between cow bars and frame and a fixed single cog (no breaks)... I use to be able to pull wheelies for fun ;)

I had a raleigh tomahawk

We called them "Tracker " too...

Any Stockport lads remember Old Stan Brooks cycle repairs on Hillgate, brilliant fella, used to unbuckle your wheels for pence , his shop was something out of a Dickens book .

Reading this thread and the wierd repair jobs makes me think....do the kids of today pull the same sort of stunts us 'elders' used to do.It doesn't seem so to me

Nah my lad has never shown any interest in bikes and when i tell him i used to be able to go no handed the full length of the street, he looks at me like im a cock.
