The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

He made his career borrowing and scrounging, playing 5 sets a night, sleeping on floors, while writing what became classic albums, he seems to have stayed loyal to the musicians that helped him along the way too. I don’t know where he lives now, what he does with his money, nor what his views are but. isn’t it better not forgetting where he came from rather than singing about a life you think he has now.
His audience is also far from being mainly American, as his current tour would show.

He's one of the greatest Artists of all time, silly to suggest otherwise.

Fair enough -- I recall hearing the next record after Trinty Sessions and hating it, so I stopped there.

Tbh Fog I'm surprised that you had that album in the first place, I wouldn't have had them down as your cup of tea at all. Not your kind of energy! In theory they got rockier after their 5th album but that's a relative thing. They are definitely an acquired taste but one I'm a big fan of.

I am surprised too. I can’t for the life of me recall why I bought it. I know I really liked their version of Sweet Jane for some reason — it might be because I love the song — but it was long after my “high every day” phase which saw me spend a lot of time with Pink Floyd and Steely Dan.

I just asked my wife if she liked them on the off chance I bought it because she liked it — we were dating in 88 — and her response was “Ugh. More cowboy, less junkie. Isn’t that from some review you read?”

Perhaps you can see why we’ve been together for so long!!! :)

Misguided angel is the best song on that album and to be fair, it's a live album and it's only their 2nd.

Murder in the trailer park and a horse in the country from the album Black eyed man are two other great songs from the Junkies.

I'd add Southern Rain and This Street, That Man to those tracks too. On balance probably my favourite Junkies album.

Springsteen has made his career by fooling a largely American market, that he is their working class hero, their blue collar working guitar toting messiah and they have fallen for his crap, hook line and sinker.
The truth is he is writing about the mills closing and him getting laid off from his job in the lumber yard, whilst sitting in one of his many mansions or on his ranch. He is simply an actor, a snake oil salesman who has sold an image and people have lapped it up.
You can't really blame him I suppose but his music can be lumped together with Ben and Jerry's, The Kardashians and being told to "have a nice day". It's all plastic and fake
Yeah, and he has zero self-awareness:

"It's a sad funny ending to find yourself pretending you're a rich man in a poor man's shirt..."

Last word on this, one thing to remember about Springsteen is who his best friend from childhood, driving force and behind the E street band, and his sounding board for most of his songwriting is, Stevie Van Zandt. anyone that knows the first thing about Little Steven ,they'd know if Springsteen was anything like one or two have suggested, he'd be nowhere near as close to Springsteen as he is.

I have been entrusted by Mr Blue Hammer to run the proceedings for the next 7 days as he goes into rehab.....
