I wouldn't bet on it with the way some of the philistines on here have been votingEven you couldn't jinx the Beatles on this tie.

I think the fuss about the Beatles in context is related to their influence on music (bands, albums vs singles, studio experimentation) and because of their popularity, the freedom they had to basically create whatever they wanted in whatever context (no demands to tour, e.g.).Hardly a cold swipe. I don't like either song really. I have never really got the fuss about the Beatles and doubt I ever will. I don't mind a few of their songs but nothing that I would go out of my way to listen to. I quite enjoy some Springsteen from time to time but this particular song isn't one of my favourites, though still preferable to this Beatles track.
Absolutely I think its more than germane to distinguish respect and liking the work , dancing / moving the body to the work , listening and obtaining great joy and satisfaction from the music.I think the fuss about the Beatles in context is related to their influence on music (bands, albums vs singles, studio experimentation) and because of their popularity, the freedom they had to basically create whatever they wanted in whatever context (no demands to tour, e.g.).
But I have no issue at all with someone divorcing that from the songs they hear today and deciding they’re not for them. Hell, my generation did that with Elvis! For me, I still love ADITL and many other songs of theirs. But do I listen to them much? Are they a top 10 band for me personally right now across their whole catalog going strictly on whether I like their songs today? No.
Respect for an artist and liking their work are two different things to me. I can think both, one or neither of these things about an artist. But one is more subjective too. Not respecting all the Beatles accomplished would be, to me, ignoring the historical record. Same goes for Bruce btw.
