The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Hardly a cold swipe. I don't like either song really. I have never really got the fuss about the Beatles and doubt I ever will. I don't mind a few of their songs but nothing that I would go out of my way to listen to. I quite enjoy some Springsteen from time to time but this particular song isn't one of my favourites, though still preferable to this Beatles track.
I think the fuss about the Beatles in context is related to their influence on music (bands, albums vs singles, studio experimentation) and because of their popularity, the freedom they had to basically create whatever they wanted in whatever context (no demands to tour, e.g.).

But I have no issue at all with someone divorcing that from the songs they hear today and deciding they’re not for them. Hell, my generation did that with Elvis! For me, I still love ADITL and many other songs of theirs. But do I listen to them much? Are they a top 10 band for me personally right now across their whole catalog going strictly on whether I like their songs today? No.

Respect for an artist and liking their work are two different things to me. I can think both, one or neither of these things about an artist. But one is more subjective too. Not respecting all the Beatles accomplished would be, to me, ignoring the historical record. Same goes for Bruce btw.

Absolutely I think its more than germane to distinguish respect and liking the work , dancing / moving the body to the work , listening and obtaining great joy and satisfaction from the music.

I don't get how some of my musically minded friends conflate the two.

I am in a similar mind set to the Beatles , when I was young I listened to them a lot it was not easy not to unless you didn't wish to listen to music but as I grew older and listened to records and the radio and then the of course the video I found myself drifting to many other artists a number of them that I enjoy more than the Beatles now and the individual members of the band. In fact I wouldn't as a whole catalogue have the Beatles in my top 50 bands but as for respect that is a different thought process altogether now and comes from reflection at least in my case.

Don't get me wrong this pick in this comp is going to be hard to toss albeit I have three songs still left ahead of it.

Another meh matchup, but it got me wondering what is yet to come. I might have slipped up on one or two but I think these are the outstanding ones which means we will be for some very tasty battles over the next week or so

Which would you like to face, or avoid for that matter?

Nina Simone (Feeling Good)
Pulp (Common People)
Jimi Hendrix (All Along The Watchtower)
Blue Oyster Club (Don't Fear The Reaper)
10CC (I'm not In Love)
Johnny Cash (Hurt)
Rolling Stones (The Last Time)
Rolling Stones (Gimme Shelter)
The Specials (Ghost Town)
Gerry Rafferty (Get It Right)
Bob Dylan (Like A Rolling Stone)
The Beatles (Something)
Bruce Springsteen (Streets Of Philidelphia)
David Bowie (heroes)

My problem with the Beatles is McCartney and Starr.
I cannot think of one Beatles lp that I have liked from start to finish due to them two.
Wings even worse but again Lennon and Harrisons solo stuff so so as well.
