The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Crazy to me -- Steely Dan's first song from their first record, and look at how far it's gone. And then after that, another nine great songs on CBAT, then another eight albums, with five or six in a row with effectively no clinkers. Absolutely amazing band, instantly recogniz(s)able. I get the LA patina that covered over their original NYC roots bothers some people, and that they could perfect every song because they were studio-only for so long, but they really have been special.

Spot on ! For me, the greatest. Light years ahead of their contemporaries in outlook, musicality and originality.

Don't get me wrong this is a great track but I could easily come up with another 30 that I like more and on many facets as well as being critically acclaimed by those who dedicate their working lives to reviewing songs are better that this one.

As you say Fog a very special band in the conversation as one of the greats in the US and beyond in the pop/rock era or timeline from the 50's to the present day

I agree and even Fagen said Reelin In The Years, the other great hit on the debut album, was " dumb but effective " !
