The Boxing thread

I've climbed through the ropes numerous times and it's mentally tough, Especially when I got the head boxed off me it made things worse :)

As for Fury, I don't like what he's doing with Usyk one single bit. Usyk is prepared to fight an undefeated heavyweight in his own country on a 70/30 split and Fury is still looking at ways out of this fight. Well he's got his wish because the fight isn't going to happen not now not this time next year Fury won't let it happen. Fury is far from a coward, He's after getting in he ring three times with the biggest puncher on the planet (Wilder). No doubt he's ducking Usyk and for me personally I think he sees this fight as his biggest threat to his unbeaten record and his belt.

Realistically he should have his belt taken from him.
Might have been the biggest puncher in heavyweight history but he is also one of the least skilled boxers ever . Sorry mate but wilder is shocking .

Wilder isn't a good boxer, What he has is incredible once punch power like nobody else. 9 times out of 10 someone gets hit with it and its good night.
Take the Ortiz fights for example against Wilder, Ortiz dominated the fights and had Wilder rattled on a couple of occasions bur Wilder caught him with that big right hand.
Have to give Fury credit for getting back up numerous times against Wilder.

We’d all like to see the best fight the best in their prime but it doesn’t happen in boxing because of the way boxing’s set up so I blame the system not the boxers.

Fury’s a clever man and he knows that the attributes which make Usyk such a special fighter are probably starting to diminish now and will definitely be reduced in 12 months time. AJ gave him way more problems 2nd time around and it’s debatable how much of that was due to AJ improving or Usyk slipping. So Fury will bide his time, trouser a few million selling out OT this summer fighting Hrgovic or Zhang or Wallin and sign to fight 37 year old Usyk next spring.

Not great for us fans but twas ever thus
I think father time will catch up with Fury before usyk. Usyk lives the life, no drink/drug binges. Fury despite his size relies on his movement and reflexes. The longer this fight is delayed (if it happens) favours usyk imo.

There’s no predicting what Fury does next. He’s such a random and eccentric character. I’ve given up taking him seriously.

Agree about Wilder's power and Ortiz was schooling him in both fights until he got slept.

Fury fighting Wilder on 3 occasions isn't necessarily by choice though. It's obviously a remarkable story from where he's come from to where he is now but he didn't have anything to lose going into that first fight and probably needed to take it to stay relevant. I can't imagine he was ranked particularly highly at that time by any governing bodies and you have to remember that the first fight was a voluntary defence on Wilder's part. He was obviously thinking Fury would be a soft touch and finally a legitimate name on his record. I had Fury winning the first like many others but he didn't come away with the belt.

He signed that huge ESPN deal with Top Rank shortly afterwards (presumably with the assurance of the re-match with Wilder as part of the deal) and he still wasn't a recognised world champion. Demolition job in the second but tried to wriggle out of the re-match for the third until he was forced to take it by a US court.

In other words he only had something to lose in that third fight and he was doing everything he could to get out of it.

Fury is a ducker. This latest charade shows the clown up for what he is.

I note that the press now even rewrite his boxing history these days, now referring to when he was suspeneded for taking performance enhancing drugs as some kind of self imposed boxing hiatus. Laughable.

Agree he is dreadful, in no particular order, Ali, Holmes, Fraizer, Bowe, Foreman, Lewis, V Klitshcko, Tyson and Holyfield were all much better boxers than Wilder and would have beaten him easily.

Been following Paddy Pimblet but don't think he'll ever make it as a champion. Obviously Conor McGregor but he's a bellend ha. Honestly there's loads of young upcoming fighters who look very good.

Pimblett's a hype job. Typical gobby bin dipper who claims he's Scouse not English. Most of the interest in him is just about how he eats like a pig out of camp. I don't think he even beats anybody in the top 10.

After Edwards Aspinall is probably the best prospect in the UK. I just hope his leg isn't too compromised when he comes back from injury as everybody will be targeting it. Decent acid test for Arnold Allen against Max Holloway next month. Mokaev looks good also but not sure whether he considers himself British or Russian.
