The Boxing thread

He looked like a pad man throwing the dummy punches that tickle the boxers shoulders in the warm ups.

Genuinely think I'd be able to take any punch that Joyce threw tonight and I'm soft as shite.
You could tell he was beaten, before the third started. Zhang, was on his feet waiting for the bell, and Joyce was still sat on his stool. I actually thought for a second he might quit in the corner, he didn't look like he wanted to carry on. It looks like the first fight completely broke him.

Zhang is great isn’t he. He’s like a robot.

No shame in losing to him. Joyce still has a couple of pay days ahead of him and should be proud of his career.

I didn’t agree with the pundits saying Joyce was too light in the first fight. He was too heavy for this one!!

Joyce was there but nobody was in and the lights were off

One of the worst fights for one of the world heavyweight titles, Joyce did not want to fight or punch Zhang.
Maybe mentally scared from the first fight or he was carrying an injury even overweight and bloated, Joyce did not want to fight back

Taking that shot from Zhang should not be happening or getting through because it was so a basic setup and the old one-two, For me that is criminal from anybody and the promoter and his trainer and corner team should hang their heads in shame if they but a fighter in danger knowing he was not fit enough or mentally did not want to fight.

When you see fear and unwillingness to punch from a boxer in the ring then something is not right, Questions will now follow and I don't mean to Joyce, But to the promoter and then the team behind Joyce, Some bad calls were made tonight and Joyce was put in danger because he did not want to fight

Poor Joyce. I like him and I have to say he always comes across as a really decent bloke. I hope he has made some good money because I think this may be the end for him.

More worrying than the punch resistance fading is how gunshy he was, I think he threw his right had once to Zhangs body. From the first fight he was trying to put pressure on him this time he was trying to fence him and move away from the left hand but he look so cautious with that right hand, he never wanted to throw it or risk it.

Zhang now moves into the limelight, if Joshua can't get Wilder done he should consider this, Zhang is good but I would fancy Usyk, Fury and AJ to beat him. Strangely enough I would back Zhang against Wilder, but Wilder against AJ.

That's an interesting post.

I thought that perhaps he was just uncomfortable with the game plan, the moving away from the left and it was forcing him to overthink? In fairness in the last fight he was letting basic shots through and he looked like he had never seen a southpaw before.

Tonight, I thought maybe his punch resistance was gone, why do you think he didn't want to fight?

For a couple of things really, First, he did not punch in any sort of anger, Joyce was just going through the motions and making it look like he was punching, Second, The basic defence of that one-two, it was sent by Zhang like a carrier pigeon and Joyce was so slow to see it,

For a heavyweight boxer to defend like that is criminal, at this level it only takes one punch and you are out
Southpaw or not any boxer worth his salt trains for a good 6 to 8 weeks and works on his weaknesses, Joyce has had 2 fights with Zhang so should be working out Zhang but both times he was just cannon fodder.

Joyce's boxing career is over, simple as that

A shockingly poor performance from Joyce, the lack of technical ability has always been apparent but the lethargy and acceptance of defeat so easily suggested something mentally deficient.
His trainer Salas has been with some extremely technical fighters and must be in line for criticism for Joyce to have seemingly learned almost nothing from his time with him.
Hopefully a career ending performance as Joyce's style of fighting is one that you fear could lead to irreparable brain trauma.

If you think about it, neither boxer threw a meaningful punch in the first round. By the start of the third round you could tell Joyce didn't want to get off his stool. I'm not having it that he got completely broken in the second round, the damage was done in the first fight, and as you alluded to earlier perhaps those who are supposed to be looking out for his wellbeing should have noticed this as well. He didn't look mentally right to fight tonight.

I thought he looked fearful walking into the ring and my mate said oh fuck as he saw him as he’d backed him to turn it around and win in the latter rounds 8,9,10 he just didn’t learn from the first fight

Joyce will have to drop a level if he's to continue.
He's now strictly an opponent for any top fighter. He'll want to go out on a win so maybe Fwank will feed him Tony Yoka, Daniel Dubois then good night.

You talking about Fury?
Fury wouldn't go anywhere near him. Too much risk for too little reward.
Fury would only get a bigger payday fighting AJ or Usyk. Maybe Dubois too.

I reckon Fury would beat Zhang quite comfortably because he’s technically miles ahead of him. Anyone can knock anyone else out at this weight though.

I think AJ would be the most exciting fight for Zhang, but surely he wants Usyk next.

Farce of a fight,so,so bad.....

Joyce had nothing,he looked like an empty vessel in that ring.Whoever convinced him to have the rematch wants fucking......it was completely irresponsible, and could very easily have seen Joyce in a wheelchair or worse.

Joe Joyce looked like a beaten man before he got in the ring. The 'fight' should have been stopped during the first round, it seemed obvious to me that he didn't want to be there, and I said to Mrs Lavinda that it would be over in three.
Joe's not got the heart for it anymore. He should retire and prepare for Strictly Come Dancing or I'm a Celebrity to give him a call.

Usyk is currently Zhangs only hope of getting a title shot until the belts fragment.
Usyk is not a massive draw unless fighting a top UK/US fighter so could conceivably take on the bout.
